Akron Area Association for the Education of Young Children in celebration of the Week of the Young Child welcomes Lindsay Bonilla

Lindsay Bonilla is a graduate of Northwestern University, where her studies focused on theatre, creative dramatics, storytelling, and world religions. She earned her K-12 teaching license in Spanish in 2006. After performing and teaching drama in the Akron area for two years, she relocated to Madrid, Spain where she taught ESL classes and worked for Interacting, an audienceparticipatory theatre company. With Interacting she toured Spain and Portugal developing and using interactive theatre shows to teach English to students from pre-school to adult. Lindsay can also be heard as the voice of Carlita, the Spanish-speaking chameleon, on the nationally-syndicated children's TV show, Ask Gilby. An avid writer, Lindsay is the author of the children's book, Lily and the City of Light, and 'Twas the Year Christ Left Christmas and is awaiting the release of two more children's books from Guardian Angel Publishing. Jeremy Brueck, co-director of Akron Ready Steps (University of Akron and Akron Head Start), will present the latest technologies/literacy websites for early childhood programs. Experience hands-on using IPods, IPads and more in your classroom!! See some great web-based programs that are available for free for young children!

Why are the arts, particularly storytelling, important to a child's development? This workshop will seek to address that question while giving ideas for how directors can support storytelling and creative play in their centers and provide resources to teachers and students to encourage their use. Cost: $5.00 per person Beverages & dessert will be provided Credit available: In-Service 2 hours 0.2 IACET-CEU's Available (additional fee of $10)

Participants will learn how interactive storytelling can be used to build literacy skills: as well as, reinforce concepts in other curricular areas. Ms. Bonilla will perform a telling. Afterwards, the components of the telling will be broken down, explained and expounded upon so that participants can take the strategies learned to their own classrooms.
