Each of the 49 sounds (phonemes) that make up the English phonological system has a separate hand sign related to where and how, in the mouth, the sound is made. The signs are logical and based on sound linguistic theory. The consonant sounds are colour-coded as an extra visual cue when doing written work. Cued Articulation and Cued Vowels are two companion texts written by Jane Passy to help teach the pronunciation of spoken English. Cued Articulation describes how to cue consonant sounds while Cued Vowels describes the 23 standard English vowel sounds. CuedArticulation CuedVowels A004BK A005BK $15.95 $15.95

Tests of Reading Comprehension (TORCH) and TORCH Plus

Assessment Passages TORCH Plus is an extension of the best-selling Australian Tests of Reading Comprehension (TORCH) 2nd Edition. It was developed in response to requests for additional and more challenging material for upper primary and secondary students. TORCH Plus contains the four most diffi cult tests from TORCH and four new tests designed to challenge middle secondary students. It extends the range of styles of reading passages used in TORCH, and includes recent non-fi ction texts written for adult audiences. The four new tests have been calibrated against the TORCH scale, allowing teachers to compare the achievement of their students with the achievement of over 7000 Australian students. The items from each test have been categorised according to the Reader Behaviour Framework, as described in Teaching and Learning with TORCH. Photocopy masters of the passage summary sheets are included in the TORCH Plus manual. With the help of the comprehensive Teacher Manuals, teachers can select the most appropriate test for their students, and generate both normative and descriptive reports on the relative achievement of their students. TORCH and TORCH Plus can be used for a variety of purposes: as a broad estimate of a student's reading comprehension achievement to help assess the extent to which objectives of the school reading curriculum have been achieved to confirm or supplement other estimates of a student's achievement in reading to provide information which may be used in setting realistic goals and planning effective learning programs to identify students who are making unsatisfactory progress so they may be given special diagnostic and remedial attention to locate areas of weakness or strength for individuals or within a class to monitor student reading comprehension achievement over time. Range TORCH years 310, TORCH Plus years 610 Purpose To identify comprehension levels, measure progress and use content-referenced interpretation to identify those skills requiring further instruction Administration 3045 minutes, group and individual Assessment Content Cloze comprehension TORCH Plus includes eight passages - four passages from TORCH and four new, more challenging tests for upper primary and secondary students. TORCH includes 12 passages. In both TORCH and TORCH Plus passages are graded in order of difficulty and include a range of text types. Students read a passage and then use a separate answer sheet to retell the passage, filling in the gaps in their own words to demonstrate understanding. JosephK.Torgensen&BrianR.Bryant Key features New edition updated items and improved format Provides standard scores and percentile ranks Absence of culture, gender, race, and disability bias Letter-sound correspondence subtests were added to it which adds substantially to the predictive accuracy of early screening for reading difficulties. Range 5 to 8 years of age Purpose To measure young children's ability to (a) isolate individual phonemes in spoken words and (b) understand the relationships between letters and phonemes in English Administration Pre-school 30-45 minutes, Early Primary 15-30 minutes group or individual Assessment content The pre-school version uses two different item types to assess phonemic awareness. Ten Initial Sound-Different items require children to mark which word in a group of four words begins with a different first sound than the other three. A child's total score for phonemic awareness is the number correct on each item type added together. The Letter-Sounds subtest requires children to mark which letter, from a set of four, corresponds to a specific phoneme. The subtest has 15 items, and the child's score for the test is the total number correct. NEW Auditory Processing of Higher-Level Language Skills

Reproducible Worksheets JeanGilliamDeGaetano Grades 2-5 Move your students on to higher levels of auditory processing in language through listening, understanding, remembering, and separating information into categories. The lessons in this book are for students who require structured, detailed repetition in order to master the higher-level language comprehension skills. Pictures accompany all stories to aid students who are strong visual learners as they attempt to strengthen their auditory processing skills. The teacher reads the stories aloud, and then students answer questions using the pictures for visual support. The book gradually increases in difficulty by first presenting two stories to remember, then three, then four. Students will practise finding the main idea, separating story details, grasping subtle information, predicting outcome, finding cause and effect, forming conclusions, explaining reasons why, and more. 2091BK $49.95

Developing Alert Listening Skills

JeanGilliamDeGaetano Delightful activities enhance alert listening and accurate processing when subjects quickly change. As pictures are presented, a statement is read aloud, followed by a direction that has little to do with the first statement. The statement and the directions are both clear and simple but on two different subjects. The listener must learn to `go on' in listening. (Grades PreK-3) 1533BK $53.00

Auditory Processing of "WH" Words

JeanGilliamDeGaetano This material is designed for students who have not developed a clear understanding of "WH" question words. The format of the questions is short, simple and repetitious. However, the illustrations cover a multitude of experiences that allow the students to apply "WH" question words to various age groups, various cultures, and various activities. The broadness of the situations gives the students the opportunity to experience the same type of "WH" questions other children probably experience. (Grades K-3) 1532BK $53.00

Facilitating Word Recall

JeanGilliamDeGaetano The pictures give associated visual clues but not the answers. If a student has difficulty reading a word, hints are provided in a structured, sequential pattern. The repetitious, structured clues or hints will teach the student techniques to use when known words remain `on the tip of the tongue' but cannot be recalled. A variety of activities are presented to facilitate word recall in various situations. 100 reproducible pages. (Language Age 5-Adult) 1534BK $55.00

Auditory Processing Super Pack

JeanGilliamDeGaetano These 114 pages of auditory processing activities are so delightful, they will challenge even the most distracted listeners! "WH" questions inferences, and other specific skills target some of the most common auditory processing weaknesses. (Grades K-4) 1525BK $55.00

Following Auditory Directions

JeanGilliamDeGaetano Accomplish several goals at once with the wide assortment of skills this unit covers. While the main purpose of this unit is to stimulate attentive listening and accurate auditory processing, the directions cover a wide variety of basic concepts in language and specific vocabulary words that are frequently unknown to students who have difficulty processing auditory information. Directions are provided for each activity, making the unit easy for parents to use for home practice also. The attractive cartoon illustrations create high interest in working in the unit. 66 pages. (Grades K-4) 1528BK $53.00

Building Auditory Direction Skills

JeanGilliamDeGaetano This book provides reproducible language lessons in following simple auditory directions, using multiple vocabulary words such as `point to', `draw', `put', `circle', `colour', `count', `touch', `clap', and the conditional word `if '. An instructor's page is provided for every activity page. 60 pages. (Grades PreK-2) 1537BK $53.00

HandiActivities for Colourful Caterpillar

Hands on Concepts Barrier Games are a great language tool as they provide opportunity to develop skills for both speaking (composing) and listening (reception/ comprehension). Barrier Games have been in existence for many years and include games which require players to give and receive directions while being separated by some kind of barrier. A common barrier game many of us will have played is Battleships, a hit/miss game using coordinates. Barrier Games can be created with all kinds of materials. This book includes ideas for creating your own games with common classroom materials as well as providing copiable masters for over 40 original barrier games. 1576BK $55.00

Coordinating Auditory Information

JeanGilliamDeGaetano Provides a different approach in improving auditory attention and auditory processing! This 60 page unit requires students to listen attentively and to follow auditory directions in working on illustrations that are divided into various categories. Two skills are coordinated. The students must remember the category information, such as "all the things that are liquid." Each auditory direction will coordinate a specific direction with a specific characteristic of a category. Examples: "Put a green line under all foods that grow on trees." "Put a purple circle around everything that can melt." Two levels of difficulty. (Grades K-4) 1529BK $53.00

JeanGilliamDeGaetano Listening from the Beginning to the End creates a listening situation that captures the students' attention. They like to listen because they want to find the correct picture. The students do not know when the identifying statement will occur: therefore, they must listen to every statement from the beginning to the end if they are to find the correct picture. 60 pages of reproducible lessons. Speech Therapy Recipes for Success

Activities and Suggestions for the Challenging Child ChyrisseHeine Chryisse's work with children with profound hearing impairment and autism inspired the creation of this book. Over the past years, working in the clinical field, she often encountered those times when she thought to herself What can I do in the session today? It's those times when the child you have seen for a long period of time is bored with your materials or is unmotivated to participate in the session, or perhaps it may be a new client who is reticent or does not have the communication skills to participate in formal intervention sessions. This book has been written for clinicians who share this experience. The book is divided into 15 themes, each having their own set of activities. All pages are reproducible, so they can be used repeatedly with different clients. Each scene contains a description of the required materials, pictures relating to the theme and the procedure to be followed for each activity. All themes covered in this book are encountered by children in their everyday lives and are thus realistic, conforming to children's interest level. 2002BK $39.95

Webber Photo Cards Emotions

SharonWebber Webber Photo Cards Emotions are perfect for helping children and adults who have difficulty understanding, describing and responding to their feelings and the feelings of others. This deluxe card set includes 102 colour photo card pairs and 30 pairs of black and white drawings, for a total of 264 cards! To make sorting easy, each card set and its duplicate are colour-coded. All of the cards show one person demonstrating an emotion in front of a blue background to highlight the features of the face and upper body. The easy to hold cards in the Emotions photo card set include people of different ethnicities, genders and ages. There are no words on the cards so you may teach multiple synonyms for an emotion (happy can also be cheerful, glad or elated). You use the photos to begin teaching emotions, and then the black and white drawings to help generalise them. This booklet includes an extensive list of feeling words, game ideas, teaching techniques, and a list of children's books that talk about emotions. Picture card set also includes a content card in six languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Chinese. Set comes with four mirrors for practising facial expressions. 841WEB $64.50
