Aircraft carriers serve as the hub of our naval defense system. The aircraft carrier continues to perform a key role in supporting our United States military personnel by serving as a Sea Base for our aircraft and delivering offensive firepower to anywhere in the world. Carriers are also deployed for humanitarian efforts, and were most recently used to supply relief assistance to the victims of the Tsunami. As our country depends on a strong defense to counter terrorists' activities and maintain a peacekeeping presence worldwide, a strong naval defense is mandatory. The success of aircraft carrier programs is also vital to keeping alive the highly skilled industrial base that supports these programs. America cannot afford to take either a strong Naval defense or a vibrant industrial base for granted. The ACIBC's efforts to bring this to the attention of our Members of Congress are necessary and very important.
