Adobe ImageReady 1.0 Now Shipping

Drastically reduces Web graphics preparation time Adobe Systems has announced the immediate availability of Adobe® ImageReady® 1.0 software for Windows and Macintosh, providing designers an easy and quick way to prepare images for the Internet. As the Web continues to grow, stimulating a strong demand for eye-catching Web graphics, designers have responded enthusiastically to Adobe ImageReady with over 175,000 downloads of the free public beta. Adobe ImageReady solves the problem that designers currently face in optimising high-quality images for the Web. Instead of having to put together a Web graphics production process using several different software programs, ImageReady streamlines the Web design and editing process, providing designers with an easy and quick way to prepare images for the Web. Designers previously had to spend countless hours experimenting with their images to see how they would look on their Web site when seen with a different browser or computer, while at the same time trying to make the image as small as possible to improve download time. Adobe ImageReady eliminates these problems and provides designers with a comprehensive environment in which to prepare and refine Web graphics. This allows designers such as Henri Asseily, founder and CTO of Binary Compass Enterprises, to experiment with more versions of a (more)

Web graphic more quickly. "The time savings are very significant," said Henri Asseily. "We went from 3 to 5 iterations an hour to over 30." Once a customer identifies their ideal compression setting, they can easily apply the same settings to hundreds of files within seconds using Adobe ImageReady software's batch processing tool. In addition to optimising Web graphics, designers can use ImageReady to add Web features to their work such as animation, image maps and tile backgrounds. Adobe ImageReady works seamlessly with Adobe Photoshop® and Adobe Illustrator® software to make it easy for users to produce high-quality, efficient Web graphics. Web graphics are a critical component of e-commerce Web sites. For example, The Sharper Image Web site, one of the world's most profitable and award-winning Web sites, needs to create compelling product photos and images which must download quickly. Joshua Tretakoff, Senior Manager, Alternative Media at The Sharper Image, creates original artwork in Photoshop and Illustrator, then uses Adobe ImageReady to prepare the best looking, most efficient graphics possible for The Sharper Image Web site. Together, Adobe's tools provide complete image editing, illustration, and production support from creative concept to final display on a Web site. "With the exploding digital imaging market, the Internet promises businesses of all sizes a virtually endless customer base. Because the Internet is a visual medium, compelling images are what attract these customers," said Bruce Chizen, general manager, Adobe Graphics Products Division. "In conjunction with Adobe's award winning graphics professional applications, like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, Adobe ImageReady helps designers create the type of Web sites that companies need to attract customers, and ultimately build their businesses." Pricing and availability Adobe ImageReady is now available for Windows 95/NT 4.0 or later, and Power-PC based Macintosh platforms at a special introductory price of £79 + VAT from the Adobe Shop on 0131 458 6842 until 30th September 1998.
