Customer Transition to Newer HMO & POS Plans

On Renewal, Customers Will Be Offered Options that Best Match Current Plans

As you may be aware, beginning in October, 2003, Aetna began offering a new set of plan designs for its HMO and Open Access Point of Service ("POS") products to small employers in Illinois. Beginning with your customers' next renewal, only these newer HMO and Open Access POS plan designs will be available to them. We wanted to let you know of this upcoming change, which may affect some of your customers with older plans. Aetna is making this change in coverage for all small employers in Illinois. Your Customers Will Receive Prior Notification To ensure that your customers have ample notice of this change, all Small Group plan sponsors will receive a letter from us in advance of receiving their renewal package. Prior to their anniversary date, we will send customers a renewal notification package. Included in this renewal package will be all 18 plan designs that Aetna currently offers to small employers in Illinois. This package will also include benefit and rate information on those plans. Customers will be advised to review these plans, determine which plan best meets their needs, and then sign and return the plan of their choice. If we do not hear from a customer prior to the deadline indicated in the packet, we will automatically place the customer in the HMO 3 or Open Access POS 3 plan design*, depending on whether they currently have an HMO or Open Access POS product with us. *The two default plans contain a standard level of benefits and an intermediate amount of member co-sharing and priced accordingly.
