DELF (A1, A2, B1, B2) Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française DALF (C1, C2) Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française

Description and Practical Information

The DELF and the DALF are official qualifications awarded by the French Ministry of Education to certify different levels of competency in French as a foreign language. The DELF and DALF are composed of 6 independent diplomas which correspond to the different levels (4 for the DELF and 2 for the DALF) of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. There are no imposed age restrictions for the DELF and DALF "Tout public", but candidates for the DELF "Junior" must be enrolled in a secondary school in order to sit the exam. At each level, all 4 competencies are tested: reading, writing, listening and speaking, with varying degrees of interaction and meditation required depending on the level. Candidates may sit an exam at any level they wish and may sit at several levels in the same session if scheduling permits. The DELF and the DALF are valid worldwide and for life. They benefit from the recognition enjoyed by all official qualifications awarded by the French Ministry of Education. Persons may not re-sit an exam at the same level if they have already obtained a diploma. Below is an excerpt indicating conditions on nationality for taking the exam. Any foreign national (not French) or French nationals from a non French-speaking country and educated in foreign secondary or higher level system of education may sit these examinations.

To have a better understanding of each examination, you may visit the Internet site of the National Commission for the DELF and DALF: www.ciep.fr

Results and Diplomas
