"We are on the edge of one of the greatest social, cultural and economic revolutions in history. By the year 2010 more than half of the world's population will be over 50. Couple this with dramatic scientific, technological and digital communications changes, increasing longevity and declining birth rates in most countries in the world and the implications are truly astounding." George Cappannelli

Overview

Aging Consciously is an innovative and inspirational national conference series designed to assist people to meet the challenges and embrace the opportunities of the second half of life. The series is uniquely interactive and features some of the world's leading authors and experts . It also involves excellent media coverage, special entertainment events, the innovative use of multimedia presentations, a unique internet portal for webinars, blogs, a syndicated radio program, a television special, an innovative Aging Consciously Book and CD Participant Gift Pack and state-of-the-art research and polling. Taken together these elements are designed to assist the fastest growing segment of our population (people 45-65+) and the companies and organizations who serve them to meet some of the primary challenges of our time and maximize their potential for the future.

Astounding Numbers

Every seven seconds someone joins the ranks of those who are living the second half of their lives. This includes more than 65 million senior citizens and over 50 million Americans who are called "the baby boomers" and who, like a tidal wave, are entering the second half of life in unprecedented numbers. When one considers the impact this shift in our population will have on every aspect of life, from the design of products and services to buying and use patterns, from social norms and practices to changes in world economics, legislation and population centers, it is easy to see why trend forecasters and analysts are predicting a revolution of unprecedented proportions. cmo magazine reports baby boomers alone earn more than $2 trillion annually. They control 80% of the nations financial assets and they have $750 billion in spending power. "If you want to know the future, invent it!" Peter Drucker 1

The Concept

After spending more than 25 years in the fields of societal, organizational and individual change consulting with some of the leading private and government organizations , (e.g. Boeing, Disney, PepsiCo, NASA, Sun MicroSystems, NOAA, Los Angeles Times, U.S. Navy, etc); a number of prominent world leaders (Desmond Tutu, Lech Walesa, The Dalai Lama, Mother Teresa, and Gold Meir) business and political leaders and hundreds of thousands of individuals in the public, George and Sedena Cappannelli, well known authors, have created Aging Consciously - a series of unique, interactive public forums designed to assist people in addressing the obstacles and opportunities of this brave new world. These programs are designed to assist participants in rethinking life strategies, identifying new careers and avocations, exploring alternative lifestyles, and developing new and more sustainable practices in wellness, volunteerism, financial and planetary stewardship and legacy issues, political activisms and more. In addition, these conferences will serve as a launching point for a new form of community involvement and international networking. Taken together the information and experience presented will allow participants to move past limiting thought forms and beliefs about aging, to better prepare for the challenges that lie ahead and to learn to maximize their energies, talents, experience and wisdom for their own well-being as well as that of the generations that will follow.

The Program

The Aging Consciously Conference Series has been tested in pilot programs executed in test markets. The Jacksonville, Florida pilot, for example, received extremely high marks from the local media (including morning television and radio talk shows, the evening news and print) and from the invited audiences who represented a wide range of age groups, both professionals and nonprofessionals and diverse ethnic, racial, religious and political segments of the population. The following are some of the benefits participants reported: greater appreciation for life, more energy, more passion and engagement, more clarity on direction, a stronger commitment to utilizing their wisdom and experience, a stronger sense of stewardship, renewed levels of engagement in careers and community, a more informed understanding of long term financial needs, and greater balance.

(Note: for additional information on the Jacksonville pilot please see the Aging Consciously CD.)

As a result of the informative and inspiring talks by well-known authors and experts, each program will be highly interactive featuring experiential exercises, guided imagery processes, journaling, panels, Q&A sessions, breakout groups and more. Each session will also have entertaining multimedia displays, feature the innovative use of music, and provide the very best in instructional books and journals that taken together will assist each participant in developing their own personal strategy for Aging Consciously.
