Medical Terminology

Overview This course is taught using the Dean Vaughn Learning System, a unique method of applied memory techniques. You will learn how to learn and how to remember what you learn! This course will teach you the basic design of medical terminology and how to easily remember the meanings of 350 Latin and Greek word elements. After successful completion of this course, you will be able to easily interpret and understand more than 11,000 complex medical terms!

*Audio Visual lessons are incorporated into the application of this material. You will actively participate with other students and will learn on your own how to pronounce these words using sound-a-like terminology. You will watch fourteen videos. A short quiz will follow. This is an instructorfree setting & requires self motivated individuals.

Continuing Education Credits

This class is approved for 16 contact hours. Western Colorado Area Health Education Center (WCAHEC) is approved as a provider of continuing education (CE) for nursing by the Colorado Nurses' Association (CNA), which is accredited as an approver of CE in nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation: #WCA0503-valid until Nov. 30, 2009. Certificates of Completion are awarded to those who successfully complete all classes.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

1) Utilize basic medical terminology in day-to day activities. 2) Interpret written and verbal communications in which medical language is used. 3) Present verbal and written communication using medical language in appropriate areas.
