Pectel ECUs

INTRODUCTION

AIM has developed special applications for many of the most common ECUs: by special applications we mean user-friendly systems which allow to connect quite easily your ECU to our hi-tech data loggers (EVO3 Pro/Pista, MXL Strada/Pista/ Pro05): users need only to install harness between ­ for example - MXL and the ECU unit. Once connected, the MXL displays (and records, depending on the model) values like RPM, engine load, throttle position (TPS), air and water temperatures, battery voltage, speed, gear, lambda value (air/fuel ratio) and analog channels of your choice. All AIM data loggers include - free of charge - our free Race Studio 2 software, a powerful tool to configure the system and analyze recorded data on your PC. Please note: once your ECU is connected to the AIM Logger, you need to set in the logger configuration in Race Studio 2 software.

Chapter 1 ­ Pectel T2

1.1 ­ Serial Communication Set-Up

The ECU has a serial communication protocol (RS 232) and is equipped with a 26 pins connector used to communicate parameters to an external data logger, or to configure the ECU itself. The Pinout is shown here below:

1.2 ­ ECU Configuration

The Ecu needs to be properly configurated through " Descpro", the software provided by Pectel to communicate with data loggers. To configure the ECU, follow these steps: - Connect the ECU to a Pc with "DESCPRO" installed and turn the ECU on (ECU pin 6 at 12V and Ecu pin 18/5 at GND). - Launch Descpro software; at start up mark [Serial], choose the right [COM] port and click on [ON-LINE] button. - The software reads the ECU configuration (called "MAPS"); when finished, press [Menu] button top-right on the screen and choose [software Setup] in the next window - Now choose [Datalogging and Serial Cooms] with arrow ­keys and press return (or double click with mouse pointer). - The default mode should be [PC], press return and a dialogue­window appears (Set to:); choose [STACK] and press return. - The new configuration needs to be transmitted to the Ecu before leaving the program : click on [File] button and choose [program current maps into ECU flash]; confirm the operation when prompted. - After the transfer is finished quit "Descpro"; ECU is ready to communicate with AIM logger.

1.3 ­ Connection to AIM data loggers

To connect AIM datalogger to the ECU, please connect cable labelled "RSR232RX" to pin 7 of the ECU (ECU TX) and cable labelled GND with pin 18 of the ECU (ECU GND) as shown below:

In order to ensure communication between AIM data loggers and the ECU it is necessary to configure the logger following this procedure:

2.1 ­Serial Communication Set-Up

The ECU is equipped with a serial communication interface(RS 232) used to communicate parameters to an external data logger, or to configure the ECU itself. Pectel T2 ECU has a 55 pins AMP connector shown here below:

2.2 ­ ECU Configuration

2.3 ­ Connection to AIM data loggers

To connect an AIM datalogger to the ECU, please connect AIM cable labelled (RS 232 RX) to pin10 of the ECU (ECU TX), and AIM cable labelled GND with pin 30 of the ECU (ECU GND) as shown here below:

Note: Before the connection between datalogger and Ecu, check if it is necessary to configure ECU with "Descpro" (pls. refer to ECU manual) to enable serial output.
