Weddings and engagements





Denise Arizola, daughter of Ana Maria Quiroga and Gustavo Arizola, is engaged to marry Sergio V. Saldaña, son of Rosa and Felipe Saldaña. The wedding is set for 7:30 p.m. on July 14 at Tight Spot Ballroom, with a reception to follow.


Shannon Kendall Paine and Thomas Mario Ramirez, both of Dallas, were married May 28 at St. Andrew's Wesley Church in Vancouver, British Columbia. The Rev. Sharon Moore-Cooke officiated at the double-ring ceremony. The bride was given in marriage by her father, Bert Paine. Their parents are Mr. and Mrs. Bert Paine of Keller, Mr. and Mrs. Hollis Marshall of Conroe and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ramirez of Dallas. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Eutolio Alderete and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ramirez of Laredo. A reception was celebrated at the Hycroft Manor in Vancouver. The bride graduated from J.J. Pearce High and received a bachelor of arts and master in business administration from the University of Texas. She is vicepresident of marketing at Interactive Funds, Inc. The groom graduated from J.J. Pearce High and received a bachelor of science in business and in computer science. He is a computer programmer at Insurance Technologies Corp. After a wedding trip to Hawaii, the couple will make their home in Dallas.



Alejandra Elvia Saavedra Acevedo-Gutierrez vows to to wed Fernando A. Soto Jr. be celebrated in September

Valeria Miriam Acevedo, daughter of Valeria and Gustavo Acevedo of Laredo, is engaged to marry Luis Carlos Gutierrez, son of Mario Gutierrez Sr. and Olivia and Conrad Qualley of Laredo. Valeria Miriam received a degree of bachelor of arts with a major in English from Brandeis University, Waltham, Mass. and a degree of doctor of jurisprudence from St. Mary's University School of Law, San Antonio. She is presently employed by the city of Laredo as an assistant city attorney, in the City Attorney's Office. Luis Carlos studied electronic engineering technology at DeVry Institute of Technology in Dallas. He is presently employed by Mercy Health Center as a team leader in the Information Technology Department. The couple plans a Sept. 9, 2000 wedding with a reception at the Laredo Country Club. Alejandra Elvia Saavedra, daughter of Encarnacion Saavedra and Dora Rendon, is engaged to marry Fernando Alejandro Soto Jr., son of Fernando and Maria A. Soto. Alejandra Elvia is a student at Texas A&M International University. Fernando Alejandro graduated from Texas A&M International University and is a controller at ZSL Inc. The wedding will take place at Christ the King Catholic Church on Aug. 26, 2000. A reception will follow at the Mirage II in Nuevo Laredo.



Alma Rosa Lozano, daughter of Rolando Homero Lozano and the late Ana Maria Lozano of Laredo, announces her engagement to Reginald W. Richardson, son of Anna P. Richardson and the late Arthur Richardson of De Soto, Texas. Alma graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1996. Alma is a third-year law student at St. Mary's University School of Law and works as a legal assistant for Texas Rural Legal Aid. Reginald W. Richardson graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1997. Reginald works for the San Antonio Downtown Youth Center as a Recreational Coordinator and for HEB Grocery Co. They will reside in San Antonio. The couple plans an Aug. 5, 2000 wedding in Laredo at San Agustin Church and a reception will follow at the San Agustin Ballroom of La Posada Hotel.



ADRIANA LOZANO CYNTHIA FERNANDEZ Adriana Lozano, daughter of Miguel Angel and Maria de Lourdes Lozano, was honored on her 15th birthday June 24. She received her blessing at Mother Cabrini Church. A reception followed at Ricardo's in Nuevo Laredo. Her father escorted Adriana. Adriana is a 10th grader at Martin High School. Hector and Hilda Fernandez honored their daughter, Cynthia Fernandez, on her 15th birthday Saturday, June 17 with a religious ceremony at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. A quinceañera reception was celebrated at St. Vincent Hall. Cynthia is a 10th grader at Cigarroa High School.



Hilda Beatriz Estrada, daughter of Hilda Margarita Estrada and the late Omar Estrada, is engaged to marry Jorge Luis Gomez, son of Daniel and Hermelinda Gomez. The bride-elect graduated from Cigarroa High School and is attending Laredo Community College, majoring in banking and finance. She is employed at Falcon International Bank in the Bookkeeping Department. Her fiancé graduated from J.W. Nixon High School and is employed at Laredo Fire Department as Firefighter/Paramedic. The couple plans an Aug. 5, 2000 wedding at Catedral Del Espiritu Santo in Nuevo Laredo, with a reception to follow at the Mirage.

ELIZABETH MARTINEZ Elizabeth Martinez, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andres and Carmen Martinez, was honored on her 15th birthday Saturday, June 24, 2000. Elizabeth received her blessing at St. Jude Catholic Church. A quinceañera reception and dance followed at her sister and brother-in-law's home, Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Andrade. Brown Impression members escorted Elizabeth. Elizabeth is a junior at Martin High School.

CHRISTINA M. RAMOS Gilberto and Clara A. Ramos honored their daughter, Christina M. Ramos, on her 15th birthday on Saturday, June 24. She received her blessing at St. John Neumann Catholic Church. A quinceañera reception and dance were celebrated at Roli's Music Hall. George Saenz Jr., son of George and Noemi Saenz, escorted Christina. Christina is a 10th grader at Alexander High School.
