WORKSHOPS WITH VISITING TUTORS 2010 Maree Talbot

We are thrilled that Maree is returning in 2010 to conduct a number of workshops, which include her beautiful Elizabethan casket comprising many panels. The first of her workshops will be in February.

Maree Talbot - Introduction to Elizabethan Embroidery ­ Choice of two

designs

Friday 26th February 2010 9.30 to 4.00pm Cost $85.00 Kit $20.00 plus some additional requirements. All levels of embroiderers welcome.

Cosmos

Tudor Rose Medallion

Both of these designs are stitched in detached buttonhole using DMC Coton a Broder 25 threads. This a great one day project for beginners wanting to learn the technique of detached buttonhole or ladies wanting to refresh their technique. This is a one day workshop.

Maree Talbot ­ Elizabethan Fantasy ­ Casket Panel

This Elizabethan design features a bird under a fruiting tree of grapes and lily surrounded by various insects, small creatures and scrolls of gold worked in silks on a linen background. This project is designed for ladies with previous experience in detached buttonhole to expand their stitching skills. You will learn to extend your knowledge of detached buttonhole allowing you to achieve unique three dimensional effects without the use of wires. The piece for this class can be framed or mounted on the lid of a box OR the piece can be put towards an embroidered Elizabethan casket which is to be done over a two to three year period. This piece has been designed to be used for one of the doors on the front of the casket. Photos of the design are on display at the shop. This design is stitched in Gumnut Yarn silks "stars" and is typical of the Elizabethan period featuring a small bird surrounded by violas and a variety of small creatures. In this project you will explore the use of detached buttonhole and variations to learn the art of creating 3 dimensional effects. This design could be made into a small bag, framed or mounted on the lid of a box.

Alison has created Clematis for those who love this gorgeous flower. This piece is worked in English Goldwork threads and Australian hand dyed Gumnuts silks on a background of black Delustered satin. Design Size: 15 cm x 15 cm. A combination of stumpwork embroidery, surface embroidery and goldwork.

A luxurious butterfly worked in red Au Ver a Soie silk threads and English gilt metal threads, complimented with garnets. This project employs basic goldwork techniques and is a great introduction to this wonderful art. Design Size approximately 8 cm square.

This gorgeous dragonfly is embroidered in Au Ver a Soie silk, English Metal Threads and Swarovski crystals on a teal delustered satin background. It is ideal for a beginner to Goldwork or for the experienced stitcher looking for something small to work. The design size is approximately 9 cm x 9.5 cm.

OR Flitter

Flitter is another simple but stunning butterfly suitable for beginners to Goldwork. It features the use of coloured wire check purls which are relatively new to Australia alongside gilt purls and Au Ver a Soie silk threads. The design size is approximately 12.5 cm x 4.5 cm.

This cheeky little butterfly is inspired by one from a medieval illuminated manuscript. He is embroidered with Au Ver a Soie Silks and English Goldwork Purls on a background of old gold silk dupion. Design Size: 7.5 cm x 7.5 cm. Friday 19th, Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st March 9.30 to 4.00pm Cost $85.00 per day All Welcome Alison will be holding casual classes over three days. Attend for one, two or three of these days. You can select a kit from the many on Alison's website or perhaps you have previously attended one of Alison's classes and need a bit of extra help. DEBBIE MERCER You will welcome family and friends to your home when you have completed Debbie's workshop "WELCOME". The welcoming arms of the tree branch hold each letter of the design

which unfolds to express the simple beauty of nature. This framed design could be used to welcome a new baby into the family or be hung in the entry of your cosy cottage. Each letter tells its own story and uses a variety of stitch and stumpwork techniques. The linen threads used in this workshop compliment the natural countryside colours. Join Jan for a casual class in Stumpwork Without Wire. This technique enables you to embroider the smallest of flowers, leaves, insects and butterflies ­ easily! Jan has a large range of projects you may choose to do including her gorgeous Mushrooms & Acorns; Toadstool Pincushions; Tiny Toadstools; Butterfly Garland; Spring Garland and many more. Jan is extremely flexible and is happy for you to work on any one of her designs in this casual workshop. Susan O'Connor

We are thrilled that Susan will be returning to Brisbane to conduct workshops for us in 2010. Susan will conduct a two-day workshop ­ a very pretty Elizabethan inspired mirror frame. She will also conduct a one day workshop for those looking for a smaller project ­ a gorgeous pinwheel. Both projects are new and not yet published! Helan Pearce

We are pleased to welcome Helan Pearce back to our shop in 2010 to conduct 4 days of workshops in May. Helan has designed a gorgeous Sewing Bag which students may like to work on during these workshops. Alternatively choose from one of her many other designs from Beautiful Beaded Embroidery or Dimensional Embroidery, both of which have been by published by Helan. MARGARET LIGHT ­ Jewellery Roll Margaret Light has designed the most exquisite jewellery roll which she will be teaching in May 2010. The roll is stitched on a black background with Gumnut Yarn threads. It incorporates a wide variety of stitches.

Catherine has designed these three gorgeous ladies for you to embroider and embellish with `40s style clothes. The ladies are preprinted onto fabric ­ in this workshop you will create outfits for each of them to wear. They are fun to stitch and fun to admire once completed!

Debbie Mercer If you have ever wanted to create your own embroidery design, here is your opportunity. In this workshop, you will create your own embroidery from a design or photo of your choice. Margaret Light ­ Tree of Life Part 2 In October Margaret is returning to the shop to conduct a 2 day workshop on the "Top half of the Tree" ­ Part 2 of her panel. Whilst this piece can be a standalone piece, for those ladies who completed Part 1 of the tree in 2009, this is the opportunity to complete the tree. This panel is stitched on linen twill using Gumnut Yarns.
