INSTALLATION RECOMMENDATIONS

The following installation recommendations are in accordance with British Standard 6883:1999, appendix B.

Installation temperature. Minimum recommended installation temperature for cables according to BS 6883 is -15°C.

Minimum cable bending radius. The cables specified in accordance with BS 6883 should not be bent to a radius smaller than that specified in the table below. Wherever possible, larger installation radii should be used. In the case of radial field cables the bend radii specified in the table below are applicable to bends made without the use of a former. Where the bend is carefully controlled using a former, the minimum radii can be reduced to 12D in the case of three-core cables and 15D for single-core cables.

Voltage test after installation Voltage tests after installation are not a requirement of this standard. If performed, the test should be made with direct current at the voltage in the table below after all terminating and jointing has been carried out but before before connection to the system. The voltage should be increased gradually to the full value and maintained continuously for 15 min between either: (a) (b) the conductor and the screen in case of screened cores; or each conductor and all the other conductors and braid, if any, in the case of unscreened cores. Installations pulling tension (Not specified in BS 6883) The cable pulling tension during installation can be estimated by means of the following formula: P = 5 kp x total cross section of conductors in the armoured cable. or P = 2,5 kp x total cross section of conductors in the unarmoured cable. Additional tension will be supplied from the braid and the insulation and sheathing compound.

Storage conditions (Not specified in BS 6883) Extended storage conditions on the site can be estimated to at least two years. The cableends always have to be sealed to stop ingress of moisture. One turn of the cable have to be scrapped if the cable end not have been sealed.
