The ASME 125th Anniversary Logo: Guidelines for Use A logo for ASME's 125th Anniversary has been developed and approved by the Board of Governors. The following is a description of the new logo, on what materials and how it is to be used, who can use it, approval process for its use and downloadable logos.

Description The logo consists of three lines: ASME Setting the Standard 1880 - 2005 The logo can only be used as illustrated above. All three lines must be used at all times and the logo must never be abbreviated to one or two of the lines. The relative positions of any of the lines to each other cannot be changed. The typefaces of the logo (Rotis and Triplex) cannot be changed. The logo cannot be reconstructed, either with the same or with different typefaces: Original logos can be obtained only from the ASME Creative Services Department (email: [email protected]; phone: 1-212-591-7081).

Who Can Use the Logo. For What Purpose It Is to Be Used. The logo can be used only by ASME staff and members in conducting official ASME business and is not to be used for the personal business of staff or members. Exceptions: The logo can be used by other organizations involved in cosponsoring an event or activity with ASME, subject to approval and review of specific usage of the logo by ASME Creative Services.

How to Use the Logo The logo must be used on the cover (first page) of an ASME printed communication or Web site. It must be placed only in the following positions on the page:

1/2" to 1" from top

1/2" to 1" from left edge

1/2" to 1" from right edge

11" deep

1/2" to 1" from bottom 8 1/2" wide

1. Top of the page: 1/2 inch to one inch from the top, and in the left corner, right corner or the center. If it is placed in the left or right corner, it should be 1/2 inch to one inch from that corner. With the exception of ASME letterhead, nothing (no other copy or art) can be placed on the same horizontal line, above the logo, or in too close proximity to the logo. 2. Bottom of the page: 1/2 inch to one inch from the bottom, and in the left corner, right corner or the center. If it is placed in the left or right corner, it should be 1/2 inch to one inch from that corner. Nothing (no other copy or art) can be placed on the same horizontal line, or below the logo, or in too close proximity to the logo.

ASME Official Letterhead and Business Cards All official letterhead and business cards are produced only by ASME Creative Services. Send all requests for letterhead and business cards to ASME Purchasing Department.

Where the Logo Is Used The logo is to be used on all ASME communications including, but not limited to: letterhead, business cards, fax, memo and other forms, brochures, advertisements, magazines, newspapers, newsletters, journals, direct mail, signage, exposition booths and other materials, programs, badges, manuals, promotional items, Web site home page and interior pages.

Downloadable Logos The logo is available in the following formats for use by ASME staff and authorized members, and other approved organizations (on case by case basis only). 1. Black and blue (PMS 661) ASME, globe and line between years are blue; Setting the Standard 1880, and 2005 are black. Can only be used when at least two colors are being printed. The two-color logo must always be used online. Available to download: tifs and jpegs in two sizes, "A" (large) and "B" (small). 2. All black Can be used when printing is limited to black or to one color plus black. Available to download: tifs and jpegs in two sizes, "A" (large) and "B" (small). 3. All white (dropped out of another color) Can be used when printing is limited to one color or as a design option. Available to download: eps in two sizes, "A" (large) and "B" (small). Access to these logos for ASME staff is via the Intranet. Access for authorized ASME members and approved outside organizations is through ASME Creative Services. Email: [email protected]

Approvals In the absence of comprehensive graphics guidelines (available Spring 2004), all uses of the ASME logo must be reviewed by ASME Creative Services before going to press or appearing online. Proofs for review in the form of pdfs can be emailed to [email protected] or faxed to 1-212-591-7078. Review of all materials will be prompt. After printing, send a sample copy to Robert Workoff, ASME Creative Services, Three Park Avenue, 21st floor, New York, NY 10016. For online use of the logo, send the specific Web address where the logo appears. Use of ASME's Name Other than in its use as a logo, any reference to the Society in all ASME communications will be "ASME", not The American Society of Mechanical Engineers or ASME International.
