CCB Goes Live With IBM Parallel Sysplex and CICSPlex for CardLinK

On 24th Oct 2008, China Construction Bank went LIVE with a smooth cutover to a Parallel Sysplex and CICSPlex implementation for CardLinK Atos Origin's integrated card payments solution.

The successful execution marks an important milestone for China Construction Bank (CCB) and Atos Origin, as we have achieved the landmark of being the world's first Parallel Sysplex and CICSPlex implementation on the CardLinK solution. Challenges at CCB With years of dynamic growth and the increasing popularity of credit cards in China, CCB requires greater processing capacity to support the continual growth of the credit card business. CCB already has a Sysplex environment with multiple mainframes but their credit card application did not exploit the potential improvement in performance and availability that such an environment offers. These factors compelled CCB to work together with Atos Origin to design, develop and implement Parallel Sysplex and CICSPlex for CardLinK. Benefits to CCB The introduction of Parallel Sysplex and CICSPlex for CardLinK allows CCB to achieve a higher processing capacity with more CPU processing power and virtual memory to run its CardLinK application in multiple CICS regions. After the successful cutover, CCB is now able to support 4 times its current daily card transaction volume and also able to support over 100 million cards with improved hardware. In addition, with file segmentation and multiple partitions available to parallel run the CardLinK batch jobs, the batch processing time in CCB has been shortened significantly. Last but not least, with this implementation, CardLinK's system availability at CCB is enhanced and capable of non-disruptive hardware change. Two Teams, One Goal This project to conceptualise, develop and implement Parallel Sysplex and CICSPlex for CardLinK would not have been possible without the contribution from CCB and Atos Origin, as well as IBM. In particular, inputs from many experts in different areas of expertise were sought to bring to fruition the conceptualisation of this project. The testing phase of the project also proved to be decidedly challenging in terms of resources and its conclusion was made possible because of the commitment and perseverance of the project teams. "We hereby thank all the project team members for their support and selfless dedication to the success of this implementation. The project teams from both companies have demonstrated an exception level of professionalism and capabilities that resulted in a well-coordinated system cutover." Zhu Xiao Guang, China Construction Bank
