SAINT LOUIS UNIVERSITY is regarded as one of the Philippines best, respected and leading educational institutions that have grown with the demands of the current and future environments for its students and faculty alike. Around two hundred fifty kilometers north of Manila lies Baguio City, known to be the "Summer Capital of the Philippines" that enjoys temperate climate all year round. From a village resort established by the Americans, Baguio has become the Northern Philippines' center of business and commerce as well as the center of education. Saint Louis University has played a pivotal role in the evolution of the City into a center for learning in the North. Today, SLU is the largest university north of Manila with about 20,000 university students in its campus located in the heart of the City. Its reputation for excellence attracts students and scholars not only from the Philippines but from other countries as well. It has sustained itself throughout the past ninety years to become one of the top centers of academic excellence in the Philippines that meet international standards in tertiary education. Most of its programs, from the elementary to the graduate level, have received the highest level of accreditation in the country. SLU is centrally situated in a six-hectare campus in the heart of Baguio City and has more than 30 buildings. It has become the venue for seminars & other special events of the public and private sectors in the Cordillera, in addition to the everyday conduct of student life in the University. It has welcomed within its walls an eclectic mix of various cultures, traditions, beliefs and nationalities. SLU was granted Full Autonomy Status by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) from 2001 to 2006 and was renewed for 2007 to 2012 "in recognition of the accomplishments, adherence to quality assurance and commitment to public responsibility and accountability as a higher education provider." SLU is one among only ten Private Higher Education Institutions nationwide, and the only one in the Cordillera Administrative Region, that was granted a five-year autonomous status! SLU is ranked 1st outside Metro Manila and 3rd nationwide among 1,188 tertiary schools based on the compilation of performance of schools in various licensure examinations by the CHED-PRC Educational Statistics Task Force (ESTF).

Carved out of deep, rugged and sloping terrain and a vegetation of tall matured pine trees amidst the panoramic scenery that is reminiscent of the idyllic ambience of historic Baguio, the Saint Louis University Maryheights campus started its operation in time for the first semester of Academic Year 2010-2011. Away from the humdrum, pollution and traffic congestion of downtown Baguio, the new SLU Maryheights campus located at the New Site, barangay Bakakeng in Baguio City is highly conducive for learning and research work, accentuated by the quiet ambience and the cool mountain breeze. With the establishment of the Maryheights campus which is only a 15-minute drive from the central business district (CBD), the overall goal of both decongesting the Bonifacio campus and decreasing the volume of SLU students in its surrounding roads as well as in the CBD was significantly achieved. The sprawling 62,262 sq m. campus (six hectares) new SLU campus rose out of a vast and sloping lot formerly owned by the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. It prominently showcases the Devesse Building, the academic building that is dedicated to Fr. Seraphin Devesse, the founder of SLU, which houses the School of Accountancy and Business Management and various offices. Comprising of four storeys and seven basements or a total of 11 floors with one mezzanine at the fourth floor, the U-shaped building also houses the administrative offices, employees' and visitors' lounge, classrooms, library, and, hotel and restaurant mock rooms for the HTM department. It also has canteens, conference hall, audio-visual room, and various laboratories for computers-speech-HTM students, including offices for the various student services such as accounting, registrar, student affairs, parish, medical, dental, and guidance. The other structures included in the Master Plan and which have either been finished already or will still be constructed are the ladies' and men's dormitories, chapel, rectory, parking spaces as well as sports facilities such as the track and field oval, tennis and basketball courts, and an amphitheater. Believing in its own home-grown and highly skilled architects and engineers, the SLU administration commissioned a group of faculty who are practicing architects and engineers to conceptualize, design and construct the entire Maryheights campus. In order to enhance the learning abilities of their Architecture students, the team required them to propose various designs. The construction of the campus began in the later months of 2008. The establishment of the Maryheights campus is very advantageous for Baguio City. The dream of a Maryheights campus had to come true because SLU wants to lead the way in decongesting the city's CBD, and thus consequently contribute substantially to the sustainable development of Baguio.
