Brothers and Sisters in Christ, As the Lenten journey to the cross with Jesus draws to a close, we anticipate the outburst of joy that emanates from the empty tomb on Easter morning. The 40 penitential days of Lent are now eclipsed by the 50 days of unbridled joy of Easter. Through the resurrection, our Lenten focus on our mortality and our need for repentance of our sins is transformed into a joyful celebration of forgiveness and life. Our Alleluias are sung once again as we rejoice at the great Feast of Victory for our God. We transition to our celebration of Easter joy as we observe the Triduum, the Great Three Days: Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter. On Maundy Thursday, April 1st, we focus on the events of the Upper Room. As Jesus gathers with his disciples, he gives them the new commandment to love one another as I have loved you. To emphasize the life of servanthood to which they are being called, Jesus takes a bowl of water and a towel and washes the disciples' feet. Then during the supper, he gives them the bread and the cup saying, This is my body...This is my blood...given for you. Then he commands them, Do this for the remembrance of me. Through the sharing of this holy meal we call communion, we relive the experience of our redemption so that we never forget what God has done for us in the death and resurrection of Jesus. On Good Friday, April 2nd, we focus on the sacrifice of Christ on the cross. We gather to hear The Last Words. In these words, we discover why this day is called Good. His death is not an accidental tragedy; it is a purposeful act of God for our redemption. His sacrifice is God's gift of atonement for us. Through the shedding of his blood, our sins are washed clean, so that in him we stand spotless and pure before God. On Saturday, April 3rd, we celebrate the Great Vigil of Easter. We gather in anticipation of the resurrection. The Easter Vigil is an ancient service of worship in the life of the church. It is actually four services woven together as one: the Service of Light, the Service of Lessons, the Service of Baptism and the Service of the Supper. One of the joys of this service at Apostles is the celebration of Baptism and the celebration of First Communion. Receiving the gift of baptism at this service will be Vivian Rose Donza, daughter of Scott and Vicki Donza. Receiving the gift of communion for the first time are Alex and Ryan Crawford, Saron and Issay Musa, and Dray Reid. Of special joy is the fact that the children receiving their first communion and their families are new to Apostles. On Sunday, April 4th, we celebrate Easter, the Festival of the Resurrection of Our Lord. Our worship and music will soar with joyful sounds of praise as we celebrate the great Feast of Victory for our God...For the Lamb who was slain has begun his reign. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Some years ago Tony Campolo, the renown Christian author and speaker, shared the following excerpt from a sermon during one of his talks at our Synod's Conference on Ministry. It is entitled Its Friday...but Sundays Coming. It truly captures the explosion of joy at Easter that sends shockwaves through the world. Its Friday...Jesus is nailed dead to a cross...but Sundays Coming. Its Friday...Marys crying her eyes out ,,cause her baby Jesus is dead...but Sundays Coming. Its Friday...The disciples are running in every direction like sheep without a shepherd...but Sundays Coming. Its Friday...Pilates strutting around washing his hands cause he thinks hes got all the power and the victory...but Sundays Coming. Its Friday...People are saying, "So things have been, so shall they always be. You cant change anything in this world"...but Sundays Coming. Its Friday...Satans doing a little jig saying, "I control the whole world"...but Sundays Coming. Its Friday...The temple veil ripped from top to bottom--the earth shook--the rocks split and the tombs opened. The centurion screamed in fear, "Truly, this was the Son of God!" Sundays Coming. Its Sunday--The angel, like dazzling lightning, rolled the stone away exclaiming, "He is not here! He is risen!" Its Sunday-- Its Sunday-- Its Sunday! Come and share in these moving services. The journey to the cross with Jesus will prepare you for life in the resurrection. Peace and Joy in Christ, Pastor V

Being & Making Disciples for Christ in Our World Today!

Each week at the end of Worship we are charged to ... "go into the world to be and make disciples for Christ". Over the next few months we will highlight different areas of ministry that allow us to just that; to be Christ in our world today!

The weekly topics are: Forgiveness Under the Shadow; New Birth Under the Shadow; Boldness and Healing Under the Shadow; Acceptance Under the Shadow; and Praying and Freedom Under the Shadow. Each week our discussion will center on the shadow cast by Peter, an ordinary fisherman who became a great leader in the early church. Sunday Mornings 9:00--10:00 a.m. in Theisz D; We are examining the Scriptures used in Worship on Sunday and how they apply to our lives today. Mike Weber facilitates. We will be collecting baby items; wipes, diapers, formula, baby food/juice, bottles, to donate to Haitian refugee families that have been displaced while healing from injuries sustained in the earthquakes. On Easter morning there will be a decorated barrel in Theisz Hall. You can drop of your donated items as you come into Theisz Hall for your Easter Pancake Breakfast. We will continue to collect baby items through the month of April. The barrel will be relocated to the Narthex for the weeks following Easter.

Giving back to our Community...

We all know times are tough. Because of the hard economic times outreach programs are in desperate need of our assistance. The women of Apostles decided that helping the youngest children in our community would be a wonderful way to give back. Connecting our congregation with children at risk is a great way for us to build relationships with the community. It reminds us that, "it takes a village to raise a child".

Quilts for neglected & abused children @ the Kid's Place

The Kid's Place mission is to protect & care for neglected and abused children who have been removed from their homes. A Kid's Place provides comfort and safety, in a stable and nurturing environment, at a critical time in their little lives. They provide on-site well child exams, therapy services, dental services, educational programs and many more programs. They are the FIRST residential facility in Hillsborough County to provide this level of service on-site. They look to provide an enriching experience that will instill hope, encourage growth and provide opportunities for success. There are a few local groups providing quilts to The Kid's Place. Our goal is for every child to leave with their own quilt. This has been a successful program and helps bring smiles and encouragement to young children in a time of great need. Watch for the Quilts to be blessed & displayed, on Sunday, May 2nd - Rachel's Day. Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church boldly speaking up for Children, throughout the whole country.

For more information about The Kid's Place on Lithia Pinecrest visit For information about Rachel's Day:

Quilter's Wish List

The Quilters are looking for a few things to help with these special quilts: Gentle used kid print, cotton sheets or curtains to add fun, kid friendly sides to our quilts for the children. PROFESSIONAL ironers (no experience necessary).

Paul Gibson, an accomplished musician, will hold a benefit concert, "My Journey on to Seminary" , Wednesday, May 19th at 2:00pm at Richey Suncoast Theatre, 6237 Grand Blvd, New Port Richey. Tickets are $10, in advance, at the box office. This will be a great concert, at a wonderful price, to benefit a future leader. Call 727-842-6777 for more information. If there is enough interest in attending the concert we will car pool from the Brandon Area.

The Women of Apostles (all of us are members of the WELCA) are undertaking some new ministries within our congregation and to the community: A Casserole ministry to assist those who have family emergencies, new babies or just need pampering; making cloth diapers (from donations of something in YOUR closet) for Honduras & possibly migrant workers an Empty Nest Night for those who are at home with no children, with a potluck dinner and bible study. We are bold women on a mission.

Spa Time 4 Girls

Spa Time 4 Girls is a program designed for teenage girls to learn about skin care and makeup and how to be beautiful on the outside. But the program also looked at; how to be beautiful on the inside by discussing healthy relationships with boys; a discussion about how boys and girls think and communicate so differently; how girls can feel good about themselves; and where God is in the midst of this! We had eight girls from Apostles attend this fun and informative event. A Great Big THANK YOU goes to Glenna Rahr, Sandy Cottingham and Peggy Prince for volunteering their time and talents at the Spa Time 4 Girls! Glenna provided wonderful information about self esteem and then helped each girl create their own self esteem book. Sandy, a Mary Kay representative, provided all of the lovely spa supplies and the girls learned about skin care and make-up techniques. Each girl was given a gift bag to take home. Instead of collecting food & non-perishables we will be having a Baby "Shower" to help Haitian refugees and their families as they spend time in our area recovering from injuries sustained during the earthquakes. Each week of April we ask the children to bring baby items; diapers, wipes, formula, baby food , etc. . We will collect all the donations at the beginning of Children's Education .

(See page 4 for more information)

Of course, we gladly accept any and all donations. Offerings can also be placed in the labeled food baskets in the Narthex.

Dear Friends, The demand for water is growing as the world's population increases. But at the same time, clean water is becoming more scarce. Of the limited water resources that are available, many are contaminated. And increasing droughts across the globe limit agricultural growth. Did you know that: 1.2 billion people lack access to clean and affordable water. 2.6 billion people lack proper sanitation services. 5 million people, mostly children, die each year from water-borne diseases. Water affects every aspect of life. Without clean, reliable sources of water, farmers can't grow crops to sell and feed their families. Women and children must often travel several miles each day to collect water, taking precious time from work and school. And dirty drinking water is a constant threat to people coping with disaster. In honor of World Water Day, LWR is pleased to announce a $1 million campaign to help provide water to those in need throughout the world. Will you help LWR Fill the Well? You can help provide plentiful water to the world's poorest people. Please give a gift today or learn more at Where there is water, there is life. Your life-giving gift will help people in need grow food, improve health and thrive. In Christ, John A. Nunes President and CEO Lutheran World Relief
