2007 End-Of-Course Test (EOCT) Ninth Grade Literature and Composition

Snapshot Report

The purpose of the End-of-Course Tests (EOCT) is to assess student achievement in the Quality Core Curriculum and Georgia Performance Standards in the eight des ignated core courses (Algebra I, Geometry, Ninth Grade Literature and Composition, American Literature and Composition, Biology, Physical Science, Economics/Business/Free Enterprise, and United States History). EOCT's are counted as 15% of the student grade in each course attempted. It is important to note that the new GPS-based EOCT are not comparable to previous QCC-based tests.

A total of 2,733 APS students were assessed in Ninth Grade Literature and Composition. Forty-nine (49) percent of APS students met or exceeded the standard for Ninth Grade Literature and Composition, an increase of 2 percentage points compared to the previous year. This is the third administration using a newly-developed assessment based on the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS).

The percentage of Special Education students meeting or exceeding the standard for Ninth Grade Literature and Composition decreased by 5 percentage points compared to the previous year. The percentage of male and female students meeting or exceeding the standard for Ninth Grade Literature and Composition increased from the previous year. The percentage of Black, Native American and MultiEthnic students meeting or exceeding the standard for Ninth Grade Literature and Composition increased compared to the previous year.
