MrJCnauz is a native of Httsburgh. He served in the U.S. Naval Transport Service aboard the U.S.S. Iowa as a crewman on an OS2U observation plane in the Pacific Theater during World War II, and later served in Alaska until his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1945. Mrs. Knauz, the former Shirley Hunter,fis also a native of Pittsburgh, and worked as a longdistance operator for AT&T during the war years. They moved to lybee Island in 1953, where they founded Knauz Construction Co., a business they are still active in. .The Knauzes are the parents of Jacqueline Helms of Wilkesboro, N.C., and the late Russell Knauz. They also have three grandchildren.
