In their words

Bishop Canevin High School students comment on their favorite elementary school Christmas memories. Jen Karabinos, `10 - a Holy Trinity graduate and cousin of Adam, '09 and Brandon, '09 Karabinos - recalled that an Advent Wreath was set-up in Holy Trinity's church. "We would light a candle each week as a student body and there would be a prayer service, too," she said. "It reminded me of what Christmas is really about." Patrick Philbin, `10 - a Ss. Simon and Jude graduate - enjoyed his grade school's annual tradition of the K-4 Christmas concert. "It was something I always looked forward to during the Christmas season." Annie Sadowski, `10 - an Elizabeth Seton graduate and sister of Grace, `07 - has fond memories of her school's kindergarten class performing a Christmas play for the school. "It was cute and put me in the Christmas spirit," she said. Andrew McParlane, `10 - a St. Patrick graduate and brother of Michael, `04 - remembered how much fun it was when Santa would visit his school, "Santa would have a big sack of candy that he threw into all of the classrooms."

How does your family celebrate Christmas?

Matthew Deluzio `10, a St. Philip graduate and brother of Chris, '02 and Mark, `05, lights luminaries on his street and attends Midnight Mass with his family. "It's a tradition that makes my family feel closer during Christmas."

Laura Cipriani `10, a Holy Child graduate, has made a tradition of decorating trees for this, her favorite time of the year. "We decorate two trees. One tree has traditional decorations and the other has ornaments my sister and I made when we were little. Ryan Lawrence `10, a St. John of God graduate, attends a Christmas party with his family at his aunt and uncle's house. "It's great to see my family all together."

A note from Mrs. Reinhart

Dear students, At this holy time of year, we at Bishop Canevin High School pray that the Lord will send his abundant blessings upon you and your family. May you know the peace, joy and happiness that Jesus Christ brought to the world over 2000 years ago and continues to offer us today. Merry Christmas and blessings for a grace-filled 2007.

Mrs. Marianne Reinhart Vice Principal for Enrollment, Development, and Leadership

Bishop Canevin on the Web

Laura Smallhoover `10, celebrates Christmas at her uncle's house. "We have a grab bag with 17 family members and a scavenger hunt to find our presents," she said. BC Varsity and JV Cheerleaders both place first in States

The Bishop Canevin High School Varsity and Junior Varsity Squads both placed first in a State Competition at the University of Pittsburgh on November 18th. Crusaders for Life

Members of three Bishop Canevin groups have raised over $2,500 for Genesis of Pittsburgh, an agency that provides services for those facing an unplanned pregnancy. The "Baby Bottle Drive" was organized by members of Crusaders for Life who were joined in their efforts by members of Interact and Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians. Over 150 students were given empty baby bottles that were returned filled with coins. Some students filled their bottles twice or even three times! The energy and commitment that the students showed will definitely help make this drive a tradition at Bishop Canevin High School. Freshmen students eagerly participated, pictured right. The Bishop Canevin Crusaders for Life committee is spearheaded by Co-presidents Stacey McClellan '08 (Holy Trinity) and Paige Hetland `08 (Our Lady of Grace), Vice President Ashley Marks `08 (Holy Trinity), Secretary Chelsea Raffa '09 (St. Margaret), Treasurer Brianne Mackin '09 (Elizabeth Seton), Events Coordinator Alyssa Capatolla '08 (St. Margaret).

BC and Steelers team-up to support Caring Team

These funds benefit The Highmark Caring Place, which is a Center for grieving children, adolescents and their families.
