Cadiz BC has called Larry Martin as Pastor. He is the former DOM of Coastal Bend Baptist Association and most recently Pastor of West Shore BC, Sandia (on Lake CC). He & his wife Golda reside near the lake. Welcome Bro. Larry! Mack Caffey has resigned as Interim Pastor at FBC Mathis.

CONGRATS GRADS! Congratulations to our grads who have earned Certificates in Ministry through our Blanco Baptist Bible Institute through Baptist University of the Americas, San Antonio. Thanks to Abel Sosa and Alcides Guajardo for teaching these classes in our association for pastors and other church leaders. Bro. Sosa had 17 students this spring in his class at PIB Sinton. LADIES CONFERENCE We are grateful to BBA WMU Director Patty Killam and her leadership team for planning an outstanding Ladies Conference to be held at South Texas Children's Home at Mineral May 8. This will be a great time of fellowship, inspiration, and training for all ladies of BBA churches. SUMMER CAMPS Summer camps begin very soon. Note inside the newsletter the preteen, youth, and Mission Adventure camps at Zephyr Baptist Encampment on Lake CC. Pray for Zephyr Manager Stuart Lutz, his staff, and all the counselors and sponsors working with our children and youth this summer. Many of us look back to summer camp experiences that become spiritual markers in our lives. ASSOCIATIONAL MISSION WEEK May is the month we celebrate the Week of Prayer for Associational Missions. Ryan White has resigned as Minister of Music & Youth at FBC Refugio. Please pray for Bob & Carole Crawford, members of FBC Rockport. They will be going with the Texas Baptist Men on a mission trip to Cuba May 15-26. Carole Crawford & Jennifer Edwards, also a member of FBC Rockport, will be going to China to teach English classes, June 27-July 21. Dale Pogue has been called as Interim Pastor at FBC Taft. He is a former pastor there and has supplied and served as Interim Pastor in other BBA churches. He & his wife Ann reside in Rockport & are members of FBC Rockport. Congratulations to Bruce & Karen Irving on the arrival of three new grandchildren! Twins Katie & Kylie were born April 16, proud parents are Chris & Amber Irving. Also, Jeff & Monica Irving's new bundle of joy, Abigail, finally arrived from China. Abigail will be 1 year old on May 10. Bruce is the pastor of FBC George West. The Regional Criminal Justice Ministry of South Texas was selected to receive the Community Service volunteer award for their dedication and commitment to others. The award was presented to Director Jimmy Hisel on April 8 in Austin.

Bible Drill Tournament Update

Sherissa Blender from Lakeview Baptist Church, Mathis competed at the regional bible drill on April 23-24. She was the only student in the Jr. High division to score a 312, a perfect score! She advanced to the state finals at the Baptist General Convention of Texas in Dallas on April 30-May1. Congratulations Sherrisa on all your hard work and scripture memorization!

More Buckets for Haiti

Coastal Oaks Baptist Church recently participated in the Buckets of Hope for Haiti through the SBTC. They collected 78 buckets. Kevin Ashcraft delivered them to Kelley Air Force Base in San Antonio. Several community groups helped with the collection, including Del Mar College and Rockport-Fulton Middle School Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Verna Ashcraft is pictured with the 78 buckets.

Frances Guajardo and family in the loss of her father, Catarino Romero of Mineral, TX. Frances is the wife of Alcides Guajardo, Pastor of PIB Mineral. Carol Lynch and her family in the death of her brother Gary Edenburn. Carol is the wife of Robert Lynch, Pastor of FBC Gregory. Georgia Hobbins in the death of her mother Hazel Looper. Georgia is the wife of Bob Hobbins, Pastor of FBC Van Vleck and former Pastor of FBC Three Rivers.

As we observe the Week of Prayer for Associational Missions it is appropriate that we reconsider the benefits and responsibilities of the 64 churches comprising your Blanco Baptist Association. Your association exists to support and encourage churches to be Great Commission churches by promoting mission networks; assisting churches in planting new churches; providing training for ministers and church leaders; nurturing fellowship among ministers and churches; and by providing resources, contacts, and planning assistance.

Baptist Student Ministry Director Position

We are grateful for the leadership of Joseph Kirby as our Baptist Student Ministry Director at Coastal Bend College in Beeville for the past 3 years. He has resigned effective the end of the spring semester. Resumes are now being accepted for the part-time BSM Director position. Strategy Planning - BBA has excellent leadership and consulting resources available to help your church develop a mission strategy or building plan to achieve God's vision for your church. This service is comprehensive and includes ongoing consulting to implement the plan. Continuing Education - BBA provides a variety of leadership training opportunities for ministers and church leaders. Degree and certificate studies are provided in BBA facilities and churches through the South Texas School of Christian Studies, Corpus Christi, and Baptist University of the Americas, San Antonio. Cooperative Missions - BBA encourages churches to be Great Commission churches by coordinating local, area, and world-wide mission ventures, linking BBA churches with other churches and Baptist networks around the world. The BBA/WCBA partnership with the churches of Western Connecticut Baptist Association is transforming lives and churches for our Lord. Mentoring/Counseling - The BBA Director of Missions and consultants are experienced and skilled in counseling and mentoring pastors, ministers, and their families in dealing with difficult personal and family issues and in developing life and ministry goals. Leadership Training - BBA sponsors training events led by experts to help ministers and church leaders better perform their ministries. Examples include VBS Teacher Workshop, Sunday School Teacher Training, Minister/Church Tax Seminar, and Discipleship Training. Baptist Student Ministry - BBA provides the building, program funds, and BSM Director's salary for ministry to students at Coastal Bend College, Beeville. Fellowship - BBA sponsors a monthly luncheon for ministers to foster fellowship, encouragement, and prayer support. BBA also sponsors the Companerismo Trimestral, Femenil, Varonil, WMU, and Baptist Men for fellowship and mission promotion. MSC Support - BBA assists Mission Service Corps volunteers in their unique ministries, such as OATH, Baptist Builders, Partnership Missions, and Church Services. Demographic Profiles - BBA provides demographic profiles to assist churches in evaluating and planning ministry. Networking ­ BBA promotes the ministries of South Texas Children's Home, Zephyr Baptist Encampment, Criminal Justice Ministry, and other related entities in our area. Convention Relationships - BBA links churches with resources and programs of the Baptist World Alliance, Southern Baptist Convention, Southern Baptists of Texas Convention, and Baptist General Convention of Texas. Church Staff Search Assistance - BBA helps churches find a new pastor or other minister, providing vital resources and training for Search Committees. We also counsel and assist ministers who are seeking new ministry opportunities. Retreats - BBA facilitates retreats for pastors, ministerial staff, and spouses for fellowship, relationship building, training, and renewal. Conflict Resolution - BBA can provide or refer skilled, objective mediators to help your church resolve conflict Biblically with minimal negative impact. Meeting Facilitation - The BBA/BSM building is available for your church to conduct meetings, accommodating up to 100 people.

Andrea Hosea has served as BBA Secretary for 2 years. She and her husband Nathan are expecting their first child in July, so she plans to resign in early July. The BBA Constitution and By-Laws lists 3 requirements for churches to belong to your Blanco Baptist Association. Member churches will: (1) promote and participate in the ministries, business, and operations of your association; (2) support your association financially each year; and (3) submit an Annual Church Profile (statistical report) annually to your association. Active participation keeps your church tax exempt status intact and is required to qualify your church for financial and other assistance from state and national conventions.
