President's Message

Summer is finally here! I would like to thank Divestco for their donation of a picture of Mount Rundle. It will be a great addition to the hall and our history. The Summit is open and ready for you and your family. Check out the dates for Karaoke. There are also specials every night. Cribbage and Texas Hold-em will be taking a break over the summer. Although the stats for Rundle continue to have relatively low levels of criminal activity, we continue to experience garage break-ins and car prowling's. With summer here, be sure to close your windows and be vigilant if you are trying to cool off with open windows. Work with your neighbors to help control crime in your neighborhood. We held another community clean-up for the NE again this year. It was held on June15. Again we had electronic and metal recycling as well as most household garbage, our site was one of four packer trucks that broke down, but we were able to get another one and it was filled by the time we were done. The turnout for volunteers was disappointing. We also had a number of loads that appeared to be from commercial sites. Tires we sent to Westwind site. Sue was able to help individuals to collaborate on taking tires to this site but only having one vehicle do the job. We also made a couple of trips into the neighborhood to pick up stray furniture. This program started a number of years ago with Alderman Ray Jones initiating a tag and tow program to get rid of abandoned vehicles. It has now expanded to a full scales clean-up effort. Thanks to all the volunteers for making it a success. The AGM was set for May 27th this year. Blake has decided not to return this year. I would like to thank Blake for his many years of service to the community. Kay has also decided not to return this year. Blake and Kay have always provided guidance and support as we met the various challenges of this Association. Thanks for all of your help. Continued on page 6

NE LRT platform extension project

Rundle CTrain Station construction update The Rundle CTrain Station was closed over the May long weekend so crews could remove and replace the CTrain platform to create a four-car CTrain platform. This is part of the larger Calgary Transit project to extend all CTrain station platforms for the future operation of four-car CTrains in Calgary. Crews will continue to complete the station, upgrading and replacing the station furnishings, which includes the shelters, signage, lighting and benches. They will install new heated shelters. At this time, although only the station platforms will be refurbished, a new President's Message, continued from page 3 Rundle held it's annual Pancake Breakfast and Carnival on June 1st and over 150 were served breakfast and many more attended the games and entertainment. Thanks to all of the volunteers who helped make this a success. This includes Kathy for organizing the event. The Guides and Scouts for helping to run the events and helping to prepare breakfast. We are in the final stages of replacing a number of furnaces that have shown their age. One of the main themes that came out of our Lifecycle review of the facility is that the building is starting to get older and we need to manage the various stress points as they appear in order to guarantee the continued utilization of the hall and our Community. 16 Ave and 19 St NE Interchange

The City of Calgary is conducting a functional planning study to determine plans for a future interchange and land requirements at the intersection of 16 Avenue and 19 Street N.E. The study will also look at providing more connectivity for people who walk, cycle and take transit. While there is currently no funding available to construct this interchange, it is identified as a priority in The City's 10-year transportation capital infrastructure plan called Investing in Mobility. Conducting the study now to identify an interchange configuration is important so construction can proceed quickly if funding becomes available. The Council-approved Municipal Development and Calgary Transportation Plans guide this study. The project team will work closely with stakeholders and the community throughout the study process to develop a preferred concept that considers the short-term and long-term transportation issues at this intersection.
