MONSOON VARIABILITY An International Monsoon Workshop 17-19 August 2011, Bangalore, India

organized by the Centre for Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (CAOS), and Divecha Centre for Climate Change (DCCC) Indian Institute of Science Bangalore, 560012, India

Despite decades of intense research, predicting monsoon and understanding its variability still remains a daunting task. Last few years have witnessed yet another spell of highly variable monsoons, reminding meteorologists, ecconomists and planners that there is a need to review our progress and formulate appropriate strategies. The main objective of this workshop is to promote discussions on monsoon variability and its prediction. Spread over three days, each session will have four to five invited talks by leading experts followed by a poster session, each with a brief oral presentation. There will be a Panel Discussion on "Challenges in Monsoon Prediction" and an evening lecture on "Monsoon and Agriculture". Contributions are invited for oral-cum -poster presentation on the following themes: Observing and modeling the Monsoon and its Variability Ocean and Monsoon Monsoon Prediction Monsoon Agriculture and Society.
