Chestnut Nursery

Spring/Summer Newsletter March 2010

Hooray!! Spring is finally on its way! The bulbs are bursting into life and everyone's spirits are lifting. The winter months have been very busy and our volunteers and friends have worked really hard repairing, maintaining and improving the site for the growing season ahead. Dorset Charity of the Year

In December The Sheltered Work Opportunities Project (SWOP) won £3,000 and the title of Dorset Charity of the Year. This is a prestigious award organised by the Dorset Business Awards and sponsored by Sunseeker International. It was wonderful that the work of our charity was recognised in this way, we hope it will help raise the profile of both Chestnut and Cherry Tree nurseries and attract further support from local business and the community.

Nature Notes It's wonderful to take time and watch the wildlife at the nursery at

this time of year, everything is really coming to life. Our pond is full of frog spawn, the resident robin continues to invite himself in to our tea room to gobble up any crumbs and there is a beautiful pair of Jays living in the trees close by. Sadly our resident fox that provided us with plenty of entertainment over the winter months seems to have disappeared. Mother Nature is a weird and wonderful thing!
