"While they were eating, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, gave it to them, and said, 'Take it; this is my body.' Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. He said to them, 'This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many.'" Lord Jesus Christ, you gave us the Eucharist as the memorial of your suffering and death. May our worship of this sacrament of your body and blood help us to experience the salvation you won for us and the peace of the kingdom where you live with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

Spiritual Adoption Program

MONTH 8 "I like to listen to my Mommy's voice!"

June 2, 2013

For centuries today's feast was called Corpus Christi (the Body of Christ) and was observed on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday. In many countries it has now been moved to Sunday, so that more people may participate in its celebration. In its present form, the liturgy of this day focuses our attention on the meaning of the Eucharist that we celebrate so often. Today's reading from Genesis tells how "Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought out bread and wine" and prayed over Abram. Though it took place nearly two thousand years before Jesus, this event has long been used by the Church as an ancient foreshadowing of the Eucharist. The reading from Paul's Letter to the Corinthians is the same one we hear proclaimed on Holy Thursday, retelling the story of the first blessing and sharing of bread and wine at the Last Supper. Luke's tale of the miraculous feeding of the crowd in today's Gospel is also clearly intended to evoke the Eucharist. Thus today's readings give us three opportunities to deepen our appreciation of the Body and Blood of Christ.

Now your spiritually adopted baby is finished developing and is concentrating on gaining weight; she might be making her mother uncomfortable with her size. She will need a layer of fat to help her stay warm after she leaves the perfect temperature inside her mother's womb. For some weeks now she has recognized her mother's voice. In a short time, her baby will be born. Your baby's mother appreciated the prayers you have said for her and her baby throughout the pregnancy. It has not been easy, but your prayers have given her the grace she needed to bring her baby to term.

Congratulations to all our high school and college graduates! May God bless each of you as you celebrate this milestone in your lives.

"Can a mother forget the child of her womb?" God

asks through an Old Testament prophet. The answer then, as now, is "No." This is why so many women lead tortured lives after agreeing to the death of the child within her womb. All the pre-abortion talk about "choice" and "your future" are little comfort to those who only after the abortion realize the enormity of what has been lost. Please pray....for the many in positions of authority who have not grasped the significance of abortion on demand, that their eyes may be opened.
