Police arrest suspect on attempted murder charge

MARTINSVILLE, Va. Martinsville Police Department investigators have arrested the suspect in a March shooting and attempted murder. Investigator D.W. Ashby arrested Timothy Montrell "Timmy" Jones, 19, of Martinsville on Friday, August 16. Jones faces five felony charges, including attempted murder, shooting into an occupied dwelling, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The criminal complaint alleges that Jones fired on the Pine Street home of victim, Clinton Wendell Keen, March 9. Keen alleged that he had an altercation with Jones and that Jones had threatened to kill him. The complaint further alleges that a city police officer observed Jones along East Church Street March 11, and that Jones appeared to be concealing something. When the officer stopped Jones, the suspect ran behind a building before returning to speak to officers. Two officers conducted a search of the premises and recovered a handgun. Ashby has been working the state forensics lab to process evidence. As a result of that evidence, warrants were issued August 16, and Jones was arrested at 11:21 p.m. Jones was arraigned in Martinsville General District Court Monday, and remains jailed without bond in the Martinsville City Jail. #30#
