May 2010

From the President:

I am happy to say that we had yet another great turnout last month. I have been extremely pleased with the attendance the past few months. I would like to thank past President of ASSE Rich Prospal of Prospal Consulting Services for speaking with us last month on Residential Fire Protection Systems. Rich covered a lot of information from the history of Fire Protection up to and including the establishment of NFPA. Thank You Rich on a very informative Seminar! We also had some good manufacturer's representation at the meeting as well. I would like to thank Josh DiMacchia and Mike Kobuszewski of Viega. Also in attendance was Peter Mullen and Barry Just from the Lubrizol Corporation, and finally John Griffin and Tim Novak from the Libb Company representing ZURN Pex. Thank you all for your support of our Chapter as well as ASPE. We hope to have your support at the Convention coming up in Philadelphia this October! Prior to the seminar The Northern Ohio Chapter of ASSE gave out awards to the winners of their Annual Apprenticeship Contest. Pictures from the award presentation can be found within the Newsletter. The pictures were taken by Bob Tesar from ASSE. Congratulations once again on your accomplishments and the best of luck in all your future endeavors. As we draw an end to the 2009-2010 fiscal year I would like to extend a big Thank You to the Northern Ohio Chapter of ASSE. Our joint meetings have been very successful over the years and we hope that this relationship between our organizations continues to flourish well in the future. At our last meeting on May 12th we will be holding our annual elections for Chapter Officers. A ballot will be distributed to all ASPE members in good standing. While I certainly enjoyed the opportunity to serve as President, I have decided to step down this year. The next meeting will be my last meeting as your Chapter President. We certainly hope all of you can attend the meeting to cast your votes for the newly elected Chapter Board members. On the menu will be a sit down steak dinner which you're sure to enjoy. The 2010 ASPE Convention and Engineered Plumbing Exposition will be held Oct. 28Nov. 3, 2010, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. As I stated in my last Newsletter, ASPE is proposing to go totally Green at this year's convention. I opened up my mouth to soon by stating that all paid registrants will be receiving a netbook computer containing all the information on it instead of all the paper handouts typically received at registration. While this was a definite possibility and a good idea in an effort to save costs, it was still being further discussed by ASPE and was not the final decision, so I apologize for that. Other options being considered are the use of USB drives or simply E-mailing all registered attendees the information in advance prior to the convention. Whatever is decided one thing is for certain, paper for this year's convention will be reduced. Sponsorship information for the convention is now available on the ASPE Website at Check back often as information is always being added to the site as it becomes available.

NEORSD Southerly Wastewater Treatment Plant Tour

I would like to thank everyone who participated in the plant tour held on April 7th. I think everyone walked away with a good learning experience and a better understanding of what goes on at a sewer plant. NEORSD staff including Kevin Zebrowski and John Bronowski were very knowledgeable and informative and answered all of our questions as they guided us around the 273 acre site.
