July 15, 2011 Meeting Notes: Harold Braren: Bix History Fifty eight members and guests heard many historical facts about Bix Beiderbecke, the second cousin of Harold Braren, the speaker on Friday. Richard Horst is a huge Bix fan and he arranged for Harold and Mike Boyler, President of the Bix Beiderbecke Society to be present on Friday. Other guests were Davenport Rotarian, Ralph Heninger, Marcia Brandt, guest of Don Brandt and Roger Schiele, nephew of Jack Schinckel. August 6, 2011 will be the 80th anniversary of Bix death. The Bix festival is being held during that time this year, August 4-7. It is only a few weeks away and will be the 40th Bix Beiderbecke Jazz festival. This year promises to be a grand event with terrific bands, informative seminars and special events. The historic Hotel Blackhawk will be the center of the festival, along with the COL Ballroom and LeClaire Park. Seventeen bands are scheduled to perform, including the Youth Band, which is made up of local junior high and high school musicians. Other sites include RME, Presbyterian Church, Palmer Hall and Oakdale Memorial Gardens at Bix

grave. All info can be accessed at www.bixsociety.org. Members were encouraged to sign up for the corn boil on July 28, less than 2 weeks away. This is a family function; all guests are $10 each. Children under 10 are free. If you are on the committee, you have received a phone call from John Maxwell with your assignment(s). If you need to reach John, call his cell, 505-1652. Corn picking details will be announced this Friday. Mike Thavenet announced that Joy Schneckloth had a baby boy on July 14. Rich Golinghorst also announced that Glen Keppy has had a hip replacement. John Maxwell was the sergeant and collected $20. He picked on Kim Wilkins, for being a hot shot at the Moonlight Chase and on Bill Tubbs for being gone to receive his Golden Quill award. Also Lori Rochau for forgetting to silence her phone and Mardy Morrow for asking if Dennis & Deb Peterson were brother & sister.

The 4 Way Test

1. 2.

3. 4. Of the things we THINK SAY or DO Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
