Re: Bus Transportation Dear Parents, This letter is to acknowledge the concerns that many of you have expressed in the past two weeks regarding the level of transportation service some of our students and families have been receiving from our current bus company ABC/Kickert. Rest assured we are equally concerned. We also want you to know that we are working with the bus company and their executives on a daily basis to alleviate these concerns as quickly as possible and to reach immediate and permanent solutions. Our children and their safety is first and foremost in our minds and the quality of service that we provide you will always be central to our thinking and planning. We want you to know that we are aggressively pursuing options that will provide the service that our students deserve. Our first move toward reaching some permanent solutions to some of our transportation problems is that we will be contracting with the Illinois Central Bus Company this week to take over all of our Early Learning Center routes for a temporary period of time. This action may become a permanent solution after examining our needs again in another few weeks--this change in vendor will take place on October 1, 2007. This move will allow ABC/Kickert more flexibility and manpower to serve the rest of our district with more efficiency and better service. Early Childhood parents will receive another letter this week with specifics regarding this change in vendor. Also in order to serve you better, as it relates to scheduling and routing stops, we are instituting the following policy:

All new stops added to any route will require a 3-day turnaround time when a new stop is approved.

This policy will ensure the time needed for proper notification and communication between schools, families and the bus company. Please be assured that it is our goal to ensure that all students arrive safely to and from school in a timely manner. We appreciate your patience and your feedback in dealing with this matter. If you have any question or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. George Elrod, Director of Safe Schools, at 708-672-2627 or Ms. Candice Gage, Transportation Liaison, at 708-367-8342. Sincerely,

John M. Rodgers Superintendent of Schools *Posted on district web site 9/26/2007. Please go to communication menu and select announcements.
