CMC VELLORE RECOGNISED AS INDIA'S MOST SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE HOSPITAL

Dr. Ida Scudder's legacy, immortalised in the motto of the Christian Medical College, Vellore, `Not to be ministered unto but to minister', was honoured when CMC was rated the Most Socially Responsible Hospital in India. Dr. Prathap Tharyan, Associate Director, received the Award from M r. D i n e s h Trivedi, Honourable Minister of State for Health and IDA S. SCUDDER CENTER F a m i l y FOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN Welfare and Ms. Nata Menabde, WHO representative to India. The survey to rate the best hospitals and service providers in India was commissioned by CNBC TV 18 and sponsored by ICICI Lombard. From over 2,000 hospitals, CMC was also adjudged the First Runner Up in the category of India's Best Multi Specialty Hospital. At the Awards Ceremony, in response to the question of how CMC has been able to consistently maintain high standards, Dr. Prathap Tharyan responded that a major factor was that the Institution was able to draw people who share its vision of providing excellent services in a socially responsible manner. The government could consider partnering with people and institutions in India who are working towards ensuring that healthcare in India is equitable, affordable and excellent. Such partnerships would serve as an inspiration to many to work towards improving health outcomes for people in India.
