EMERGENCIES AND PROCEDURES IN PEDIATRICS

THE ROYAL SONESTA HOTEL COURSE DESCRIPTION

Through didactic lectures and interactive sessions, the presentation and management of pediatric patients with medical and surgical emergencies will be taught in depth in this threeday intensive course. A focus on patients presenting with infectious disease emergencies will be featured, including the latest updates on management of the febrile patient, methicillin resistant S. aureus (MRSA) and avian flu. Small group interactive sessions will highlight acute cardiac cases, procedural sedation, and how to reduce your malpractice risk. Hands-on workshops will allow participants to practice their skills in resuscitation, intraosseous access, splinting, and airway management, including laryngeal mask airways. Pediatric surgeons will give individualized teaching on suturing techniques and use of tissue adhesives.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

· Better recognize and successfully manage pediatric patients with emergencies in: - Infectious diseases - Head and neck trauma - Acute airway and other respiratory illnesses - Cardiac, GI, and endocrine diseases - Ingestions and overdoses · Minimize malpractice risk · Improve skills in resuscitation, airway management, intraosseous and umbilical access, splinting, casting, and suturing techniques. · Better understand what is and what is not child abuse
