This document provides an overview of ABNT Ecolabel. ABNT Ecolabel is one of the several standard systems that are referenced in Standards Map, the interactive web-based tool on private standards developed by the T4SD program of ITC.

What is the ABNT Ecolabel

Founded in 1940, ABNT is the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards, a private not for profit organization that is recognized as the only National Forum for Standardization in Brazil. ABNT is a member of ISO (International Organization for Standardization), the COPANT (Panamerican Commission for Technical Standards), the AMN (MERCOSUR Standardization Association) and GEN (Global Ecolabelling Network). ABNT is also a certification body accredited by Inmetro for certification of products, services, systems and people. Rótulo Ecológico is the eco-labelling program developed by ABNT that measures the environmental performance of production processes through a life-cycle approach. The eco-label of Rótulo Ecológico is called "ABNT Ecolabel". Rótulo Ecológico has been developed to support the continuing effort of improving and maintaining environmental performance of production processes via reduced energy and material consumption, reduced waste and pollution related to the production process, towards the final use of products and disposal of waste.
