D r . V e e r a K h a r e A s h e r is a pioneer in the juxtaposition of both the classic and the contemporary. Professionally, Veera has worked extensively in live production as a singer, actor, Indo-jazz dancer, pianist, violinist, songwriter and composer. She is also an accomplished director, producer, and creator of live stage shows. Veera continues to be involved in academia and has experience as a University instructor, researcher, and innovator in performing arts training. Her versatility as a performer, teacher and entrepreneur has catapulted her to the forefront of her unique niche combining motivation, education and entertainment. She earned her Bachelor of Music, Major Opera degree at the University of British Columbia. Then, on full scholarship, she completed her performing and directing studies at the Hartt School of Music, in Connecticut, where she graduated with a Master of Music, Major Opera. Beyond her classical training, Veera also studied Jazz at the Banff Center with Sheila Jordan, wrote, recorded and produced an original demo album at some of New York City's premiere recording studios, studied Pop singing with Dr. Tina Shafer and was a member of the New York City Songwriter 's Circle. After several years as a performing artist Veera returned to academia and completed her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Voice Performance from the University of Nevada Las Vegas where she also taught as an instructor. Veera began her opera career at Connecticut Opera in productions of La Bohème, Madama Butterfly, Don Giovanni, and Lucia di Lammermoor. She has been a featured soprano soloist in several symphonic performances singing Mozart and Beethoven to Pops repertoire. With her original composition, the "Ave-Om Prayer" for voice and flute, she has also performed at the Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall. For several years, Veera was a member of the NEXTET chamber group under composer/conductor Virko Baley, where she performed and collaborated on new music by renowned living composers, singing in over ten different languages including French, Japanese, Russian, and Korean. In October of this year she performed the world premiere of the song cycle Four Telling of Beads by Austrian-American composer, Walter Arlen in Los Angeles, California. Alongside her work as a classical artist, Veera's diversity as a singer is represented in her professional work on the jazz, musical theatre, pop and world music stages. With that unique versatility, Veera began developing shows that would appeal to `all audiences.` In the last decade, Veera has created and produced over twenty original productions combining her various musical styles. Her live productions have been sponsored by both American and Canadian arts organizations and corporations. Veera culminated all her talents in her debut as a classical-crossover artist in her original stage production "A touch of Opera, A touch of India." Her vision was realized with the support of world-renowned advisors and collaborators such as conductor Laszlo Gati, theatre director Tom Kerr and choreographers Shiamak Davar and Cristina Bucci. The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) radio and television featured Veera's work as a creator/producer of live shows, with interview and several of her traditional and avant-garde performances broadcast nation-wide. words of wisdom with classical-crossover music that integrate sophisticated influences from her South Asian culture, opera, theatre, dance and composition. Recently, she performed in Los Angeles, California for Ambassador Meera Shankar, the Indian Ambassador to the United States. Dr. Veera Asher is in demand as both a motivational artist and presenter by leaders in business, politics and academia from Norway to India for her creative performances. As a creative consultant, she has worked on productions such as the Britney Spears 2009 Tour, Cy Coleman's In the Pocket, and the Christmas Spectacular 2006 at Radio City Music Hall. She is presently working on developing new original productions for the stage both independently and in collaboration with other creative experts including writer, director, and video content designer, Dirk Decloedt. In August 2010, Dr. Veera Asher joined the Center for Conscious Creativity (c3) as the Executive Director of a new performing arts research and development lab. She launched the c3:CreateLAB in association with Vortex Immersion Media Inc. at the Los Angeles Center Studios, with a never-before-seen performance in a dome theater of live performers interacting with 360 degree full dome visuals and other emerging technologies. Her work with the c3:CreateLAB was born out of her innovative ideas for a new genre in the performing arts. Dr. Veera Asher describes herself as a motivational artist-presenter, performance coach, and expert in artist development when considering the next generation in the performing arts. Her expertise brings the arts and sciences together. Dr. Asher 's doctoral dissertation and recent research projects specialize in voice performance, voice science & mind-body techniques. She is also a certified Pilates instructor and the creator of a new mind-body training technique called Pilates2Voice®. Dr. Veera Asher has been invited as a presenter of her innovative ideas related to music education and performance training at national conferences for the College Music Society, the National Association of Teachers of Singing, and the Vancouver International Song Institute. For over a decade, Veera's private voice studio is the home of amateur and professional speakers, actors and singers. Professional clients have included classical and pop recording artists, television actors and performers from the major Broadway productions in New York City and Las Vegas, including Phantom of the Opera, Bombay Dreams, Mamma Mia, and Wicked. Recently she has also been successful in teaching children with learning disabilities.
