Wiring CAT5 speed dome telemetry

using a SYMPHONY DVR & CD55 / CD53 / CD52 domes

In order to ensure a reliable, error free telemetry set-up, it is important to wire your speed domes using a CAT5 cable (not alarm cable, etc - these cables do not carry the telemetry signal effectively), in a serial wiring configuration - as shown below. Daisy chain the devices together using a single CAT5 pair (do not `double up' pairs, this will cause problems). Start from the keyboard, then to the DVR, then insert the pair for the first dome in the same terminals on the DVR as the keyboard, then chain to the next dome - again, sharing the terminals. Repeat for each following dome. Terminate the last dome in the chain by setting dipswitch 10 to on (on a CD55, CD53 or CD52 dome). Terminate at the keyboard by setting the appropriate dip switch.

Fixing a CAT5 star wired configuration using a SYMPHONY DVR & CD55 / CD53 / CD52 domes.

If you have wired your speed domes using a `star' wired telemetry configuration, we recommend the following wiring configuration: It is possible by making a few simple changes to convert a CAT5 star configuration to a serial configuration without the need to add extra cabling, or to re-wire your installation.

1: Connect the keyboard to the telemetry input on the DVR - set the keyboard to terminate the cable if required. 2: Connect the telemetry input of the DVR to the CAT5 coming from dome 1. 3: At the first dome, take a second pair from the CAT5 cable going back to the DVR, and add it to the existing telemetry connection. 4: At the control room end, connect the second domes telemetry to this new pair coming back from dome one. 5: Repeat this process until you get to the last dome. 6: On the last dome, simply terminate the cable - by setting dipswitch 10 to on (on a CD55, CD53 or CD52 dome). By performing this procedure, you end up with a single run of cable chaining each device together - with a termination at each end. Wiring at speed dome head Wiring at the DVR

Add an extra pair to the junction box, that can connect to the next speed dome back at the control room.
