MonojectTM PreFilled saline and heparin syringes are manufactured in a drug facility. Solutions are formulated on-site and the syringes are terminally sterilized, resulting in a significantly reduced potential for a contaminated syringe.

Sterilization

PreFilled syringe contamination has occurred in competitive products and has been documented to cause bloodstream infections. All Monoject PreFilled saline and heparin syringes are terminally sterilized to minimize the potential of contamination.

inSPection

Manufacturing processes can vary among PreFilled syringe manufacturers. Many do not have automated systems for inspection, nor in-house testing. The onsite testing, on-line inspection and quality control system of Monoject PreFilled syringes result in a higher quality product for both clinicians and patients.

Terminal Sterility vs. Aseptic Technique

covidien uses a terminal sterilization process which can be validated to a minimUm 10-6 probability of a non-sterile unit (PnSU). many competitive products are made in clean rooms, using an aseptic fill process, without final steam sterilization. an aseptic fill process cannot be validated better than a 10-3 PnSU. a terminal sterilization process that provides a 10-6 PnSU produces product with a minimUm probability of 1 in 1,000,000 syringes being non-sterile. an aseptic sterilization process that yields a 10-3 PnSU produces product with a maximum probability of 1 in 1,000 syringes being non-sterile. The terminal sterilization process covidien uses to sterilize the monojectTM PreFill iV Flush syringes minimizes the probability of a non-sterile unit.
