PROJECT 2: GEOPHYSICAL BOREHOLE LOGGING AND DIVER INSTALLATION OF HAP MONITORING BOREHOLES Project Staff: William A. Agyekum Project Coordinator: Dr. S. DapaahSiakwan Funding Agency: i) CIDA ii) Water Resources Commission (WRC) Collaborating Agencies: CIDA, Danida and Water Resources Commission Year Started: August, 2007 Year to end: June 2008 Summary As part of CIDA's ongoing Hydrogeological Assessment Project (HAP) of Ghana's three northern regions, the CSIR Water Research Institute has carried out geophysical welllogging and

st th installation of divers on all the nine (9) successfullydrilled wells between 21 August and 30

October, 2007. The purpose of the research work is to enhance the knowledgebase and understanding of the hydrogeological setting and groundwater resources management and development in the northern part of Ghana, particularly in areas underlain by Voltaian rocks. Six (6) out of the nine (9) boreholes drilled were fullyconstructed, while the remaining three (3) were left as open holes due to their low airlift yields and the stable nature of the underlying rocks. Fig. 1 is the map of the three northern regions, showing the location of the 12 project boreholes.
