I practice and teach animal communication. I'm a Registered Massage Therapist, certified in Canine Massage and Equine Acupressure, and a Reiki Master Practitioner/Sensei. I remember noticing thoughts and wondering is that my thought, or did you just speak to me? Is it my imagination, or is it a coincidence that I know/feel what my animal friend needs or wants? With my awareness expanding, I became more curious about sending and receiving thoughts. Through meditation and years of study with many great teachers, the answers to these questions became clear. We are all blessed with the ability to communicate telepathically. As we learn to

remove the barriers, calm the mental chatter, become grounded, centered, and completely present, the path is cleared to receive telepathic communication. With open hearts and minds, many humans may re-discover the natural abilities and re-connect with other beings. Our animal friends are often asked to adapt to many stressful environments. It is our responsibility to provide them with happy and healthy environments. Animals are sensitive to the natural balancing of life force energy, many are capable of performing their own healing work. Imbalances, depletions or blockages in the flow of our animal friend's life force may precede and cause physical symptoms of illness. Balancing and unblocking the flow of this life energy become the goal of energy

Born in Iowa, I first became aware of the holistic field at age nine. I woke up one Saturday morning, walked across the room, turned my head to the left, and my neck stayed there because a vertebrae had slipped out of place. That was the day of my first visit to a chiropractor. We ate food from our garden and meat that our farmer-relatives raised. I lived outdoors in the fresh air as much as possible, loving the broad expanse of the Midwestern plains.

After earning my B.A. in anthropology, I spent two months in Europe. I traveled to museums and historic sites, and enjoyed the food flavors of other countries. I returned home and earned my M.A. in archaeology. I lived in various states until I arrived in Texas. Here I met Janice Whiteley, who had an idea for a holistic health magazine, which she founded nine years ago. Enjoy Whole Health had two guiding principles: that everyone holistic practitioner should be able to afford to advertise, and that the public needed to

healing. Healing may occur where there is trust and a merging of minds, combined with intentions to help or heal. With noninvasive techniques, clear communication, and body and energetic work, we may speed the healing process and strengthen the heart-to-heart connection. To keep this work as pure and harmonious as possible requires that I continue to grow spiritually. It is my heartfelt desire to offer a number of healing techniques for the benefit of our animal friends. Animal Care offers services of communication, acupressure/massage, Reiki, and energy healing. The truest path is not a matter of the mind, but a journey of the heart. With love, honor, and respect, I promote harmony, a better understanding and connection with all beings.

Later after Janice had health issues, she sold the San Antonio magazine to me because she felt that I would continue her vision of serving the Texas holistic community. After publishing the magazine for a year and a half, I founded the Austin edition of Enjoy Whole Health. This issue is the third anniversary of the Austin edition. I try to go where life's journey leads, but I've always followed my own path. Prev Preventing Cedar Fever

Beverly Meyer, C.C.N.

How many of us suffer with lost work days and miserable nagging coughs from cedar allergies? Statistics tell us that two-thirds of Bexar County residents report symptoms of cedar allergy, especially in bad years when pollen blows like smoke across the sky. The good news? We can actually take steps now to desensitize to cedar before it blows into our area. Here's what I recommend to my clients at the Diet & Health Center. Starting the first of November (or as soon after that as possible), begin taking homeopathic cedar drops once daily. Take drops twice daily as we get closer to the December release of pollen. Once pollen is heavy in the air, you may safely take homeopathic cedar drops 3, 4, or even 5 times daily. The drops go under the tongue, and all ages may take them. The Mountain Cedar remedy that we sell contains only homeopathic cedar. It does not contain spring pollens as some other brands do. (We have different drops for the spring trees). The drops work like an allergy shot to desensitize the body to the pollen and reduce how strongly we react. It is our bodies' reaction to the pollen that causes the sneezing,

itchy eyes, cough, and fatigue. The pollen itself is an innocent bystander! We generally recommend a bottle of another excellent remedy, Allerdrain, to take with Cedar drops. Allerdrain contains homeopathic Histaminum, which works brilliantly as an antihistamine but in an entirely different way than medical antihistamines do. Histaminum actually prevents the allergic reaction: it doesn't just block the histamine once it has already been released. Vitamin C and/or bioflavonoids are also very helpful with all allergies. Please inquire about allergy treatments using a concentrated cool laser light source to treat acupuncture points associated with allergy. I have had hundreds of these quick allergy treatments, and they help me with reactions to everything from cat fur to tomatoes. Our treatments are a form of the famous NAET allergy technique pioneered in India some years ago. Laser NAET is fast and easy and can treat dozens of items in a very short time. Finally, diet plays a huge role in allergies. We are now performing the famous Metabolic Type Testing popularized by Dr. Joseph Mercola on his wonderful Web site www.mercola. com. His book teaches a shortcut version of the real test, but the full test is fun and easy and done from your home computer. By learning which of the 9 metabolic types that you are, you can finally eat the way your body actually needs, regardless of the latest diet trend. Metabolic Typing has been scientifically researched over a 30-year period, and the results can be simply astonishing! Call for more information on Metabolic Typing or for your supply of cedar drops. See you soon!

But forget the pills and creams, BRING ON MORE CLAY! (feedback from P.E. in SA) So what exactly is clay good for besides detoxification? It has been credited over the ages with improving a tremendous range of conditions, such as all digestive concerns from bad breath to hemorrhoids; skin ailments; chronic infections; food, heavy-metal, and radiation poisoning; arthritis; allergies; hay-fever; anemia; hepatitis; cirrhosis; chronic fatigue syndrome; menstrual cramps; prostate problems; headaches; burns; and parasites. Clay is very beneficial for women trying to conceive, and for mother and child during pregnancy, delivery, and breast feeding. It is known to accelerate the healing of broken bones, strains, and sprains. Additionally, Bentonite has been considered a slimming agent for the overfat/undernourished body. Practicing naturopaths and pelotherapists (clay healers) have long considered clay alive, even though it is an inorganic substance. It is not a food or a medicine, but is a natural element that performs the functions of both. A pack is a time-honored method of applying clay to an affliction. Clay can also be used in ointments, masques, baths, washes, scrubs, and pastes. The whole range from clay-water to magma (the hydrated gel state) can be employed. Protocols for each ailment are utilized for "pin-point healing," methodology specific to pelotherapy. Clay can be used dry or hydrated, and makes a great complementary therapy with water (hydrotherapy). Additional responses can be elicited with the introduction of essential oils, hydrosols, carrier oils, essences, homeopathy, herbs, and marine elements to the clay. Nature has provided us with many ways to vitality. Clay, one of many nature medicines, has been used since the dawn of time, by humans and animals alike, for an excellent reason: It works, simply and effectively. Other: 1. _____________________ 2. _____________________ 3. _____________________ 4. _____________________ 5. _____________________ As you engage in this process, look for any "pivotal tolerations." Pivotal tolerations are things, people, and circumstances that, when handled, will automatically resolve other tolerations. For me, one of my pivotal tolerations was holding on to a job that truly didn't interest me and, therefore, limited my energy and enthusiasm for living authentically. After I became really clear on this, it then became my responsibility to take action to correct the problem. I hired a skillful life and business coach to collaborate with me in assessing this situation, making a decision, and taking appropriate action steps to rectify the problem. Afterwards, many tolerations in other areas of my life began to change. I now had increased energy to take better care of myself, my family, and my home. If this exercise aids you in identifying "energy drainers," that is the first step to making shifts in how you think and how you express yourself personally and professionally. Again, I challenge you to start identifying your tolerations. If you are interested in collaborating with a Professional Life Coach to assist you in eliminating these tolerations, call me at 210-647-0645 or go to "Find Your Coach" at www. to make contact with another professional coach in the San Antonio area.

What Are You Tolerating?

Sharon Powell, Columnist

Hello again. It's me, Sharon, your Professional Life Coach. As I begin my second column for Enjoy Whole Health magazine, I am eager for you to get to know me better, and to understand more about what coaching is and how it may benefit each of you. For many years, I held a high-level managerial position and, from all outward appearances, looked successful. However, I was not happy. The job seemed to take all of my energy, leaving me unfulfilled and always in a rush to get things done. There seemed to be no time for me and, when there was, I still lacked focus on what I really wanted out of life. When I began working with a professional coach, several years ago, she guided me through several processes to strengthen my personal foundation. Your personal foundation is the structure that supports you in sustaining your life energy. I became aware of the things/people/circumstances in my life

Clay (from p. 6)

that gave me energy and the things/people/circumstances that depleted my energy. In coaching, we call this process "zapping your tolerations." To tolerate means to allow the existence of something, to permit or endure something, or to put up with something. Things, people, and circumstances that we continue to tolerate drain our energy, weaken our personal power, and inhibit our ability to change or move forward in life. As your Professional Life Coach, I ask, "What are you tolerating?" Please give this some thought and start making your list using the following categories as a guide. The objective is that you simply begin to identify the things, people, and circumstances that you are tolerating, and not to resolve them. (That will come later.) A. Your relationships: 1. _____________________ 2. _____________________ 3. _____________________ 4. _____________________ 5. _____________________ Your job/career/business: 1. _____________________ 2. _____________________ 3. _____________________ 4. _____________________ 5. _____________________ Your home: 1. _____________________ 2. _____________________ 3. _____________________ 4. _____________________ 5. _____________________

support the organism (organism meaning us human beings). Which raises the question: How do you do those two things? First, identify the insults. The insults may be the food that you eat, the environment inside your home, the lack of natural sunlight on a daily basis, pollution on the freeway on the drive to work, a sedentary life-style, and/or polluted water with chlorine and fluorine--both of which inhibit the uptake of iodine, which is essential for the proper function of our thyroid. If our thyroid doesn't work right, we don't utilize our energy and we store it as fat. How did I get on that tangent! Well, one thing leads to another. Lack of natural sunlight leads to poor synthesis or an outright deficiency of Vitamin D, which leads to poor calcium metabolism, which can result in osteoporosis and bone loss around the teeth, leading to tooth loss, which leads to malnutrition. Lots of trickle down affects. How do we support the organism? The short answer is, do what your Mother said, "Eat your meat and vegetables." However, now we have to make sure that they are not contaminated with hormones, pesticides, food additives, dyes, and thousands of other things that are put in our food to make them pretty and tasty. Did it ever occur to you that we use grains to make our livestock fat? Yes, we fatten our cattle, sheep, lamb, chicken, and fish with grain, which has mercury in it to kill the fungus that accumulates in the grain. Mercury is a known neurotoxin, and mercury has no known use for supporting life. Its sole use is to kill living organisms. Isn't that interesting? Today, supporting the organism isn't easy. You have to eat organic food--both meat, vegetables, and fruit--and still you don't get enough vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and phyto-chemicals, because organic soils are not as rich as the soils were when my mother and father were growing up on the farm in Tennessee. They ate the fish that came from the creeks. You can't do that any longer. They ate the vegetables that were raised on the farm. They ate the meat that was raised and butchered on the farm. We can't do that anymore. Most of us live in town, so we are dependent upon the food supplies available to us. Remember, when you go about your daily life, there are only two things: eliminate the insults, and support the organism. Stay healthy!

Out of Control

Tony McRedmond, D.D.S., Columnist

The newspaper headlines scream, "Health Costs Are Out of Control! Insurance premiums are rising annually at double digit rates! Employers cut benefits! Millions of people are without health insurance!" To be truthful, we should delete the word "health" from all of these phrases and insert the word "disease," because we have disease insurance, disease costs. Disease is the issue--not health. If you are healthy, you do not have costs related to disease. It may seem rather silly to address the semantics of the issue, but the costs are actually for disease. The insurance is specifically for disease. What do we do about the increasing costs of disease? The answer, of course, is to prevent disease. We have fire prevention, accident prevention, and so forth. Why don't we have disease prevention? Consider this: There are only two things to do. The first is to eliminate the insults (whatever they may be), and number two is to

Thank You, Muchas Gracias, Danke Shein

Rev. Cathy Naiser, Columnist

Appreciation can make a day, even change a life. Your willingness to put it into words is all that is necessary. Margaret Cousins, Author Do you remember how you felt the last time someone told you, Thank you? Did it make your day? Did you smile? Did you feel better? Most parents teach their children the Magic Words, Please and Thank You. How many of us remember those Magic Words in our day-to-day lives? We know that there is power in having an Attitude of Gratitude, and we feel thankful for the good that comes to us. How many times do we take the chance to actually thank the people who are the channels of that good? How many times do we make other people's day? Whether it is in our business, our home, or in our routine activities, we have numerous opportunities to say the words Thank You. Gestures of Gratitude allow others to feel appreciated, encourage others to continue being generous in their actions, allow us opportunities to network with others, and give others a reason to smile. Expressing our gratitude to others helps us feel better too. When we live in the vibration of consciousness that says, "Good things are happening to me" or "People around me are kind and helpful," then we continue to attract more of the same. If we focus on the fact that others are kind and helpful to us, people continue to be kind and helpful to us. The book, The Power of Positive Students, depicts the incredible improvement of a struggling school district. In the program they followed, teachers were trained to be Good Finders. As they focused on the good actions of students, parents, and other teachers, the good actions actually increased. Seeing the good actions of others is not enough. The real benefit comes from acknowledging those good efforts and actions. We often acknowledge good actions that are large in proportion, but the quality of our lives improves dramatically by increasing the amount of small positive actions. Listed below are some practical hints for expressing more gratitude to those around you. 1. Watch the people around you and be a Good Finder. Many of us miss the kindness around us because we are lost in our own thoughts, schedules, and activities. When you begin to notice people more, verbally express your gratitude for their kindness. 2. Write at least one formal Thank You card or letter each week.

November/December 2004

When was the last time you received a Thank You card in the mail for one of your actions? Formal Thank You cards take time to write, but they are remembered much longer than e-mail. Sending formal Thank You notes or letters will endear you to the receivers, help the receivers feel pride for their actions, and encourage the receivers to continue being kind and helpful. 3. Keep some nice blank Thank You cards on hand. Many times, we don't write Thank You notes because we have to go buy them. If we are pressed for time, the Thank You note writing gets dropped. Keeping cards on hand allows us to send them whenever we wish. 4. Set a time each week for writing Thank You cards. Make the expression of gratitude a priority in you. You can buy little note cards or make some cute ones. Keep the cards on hand and write short personal, signed notes on the prepared cards. Here are some low budget ideas for cute notes with little attachments: Attachments Plastic snack bag of Lucky Charms® Chewing gum Krackle® candy bar Pack of nuts Feather Nail Ball Marking pen Notes We're lucky to have such a Charmin' person on our staff. Thanks for stickin' ith us! Thanks for putting snap, Krackle, and pop into our business. We're nuts about you. I'm tickled to have you here. You hit the nail on the head! Thanks for giving us the bounce that we needed. Thanks for leaving your mark on the project.

Notes like these can be made inexpensively and in advance. With an added personal note, the thought goes a long way. The ideas presented here may seem simple. They are. If we have goals of expressing more gratitude, we have to find simple ways to approach those goals. Most of us are busy people and need to streamline all that we do. If a simple Thank You card can make someone's day, can make someone smile, and can encourage someone to continue to be kind, then a practice of saying simple Thanks You's can ultimately change the world. I invite you to help transform the world by expressing your gratitude during the holiday season. Thank You, Muchas Gracias, Danke Shein.

Dr. Simon Shim, Ph.D., Lc.A.

Asthma affects approximately three percent of the U.S. population and, although it occurs at all ages, it is most common in children under ten. Among children, there is a two-to-one male-to-female ratio of asthma sufferers, which equalizes by the age of thirty. The rate of asthma in the United States is rising rapidly, especially among children. Reasons often given to explain the rise in asthma include stress on the immune system due greater chemical pollution in the air, water, and food; earlier weaning and earlier introduction of solid foods to infants; food additives; and genetic manipulation of plants, resulting in food components with greater allergenic tendencies. By Traditional Oriental Medicine, asthma divides two types. Exogenous pathogenic factors is of the Excess type. Asthma due to weakened body resistance is of Deficiency type.

Deficiency Type 1. Lung Deficiency Main manifestations: short and rapid breathing, feeble voice, weak and low sound of coughing, sweating on exertion, pale tongue, and weak pulse. These mean that the lungs dominate the qi. When there is deficiency of the lung qi, the function of the lungs is impaired. There appear short and rapid breathing, feeble voice, and a weak and low sound of coughing. When the lung qi is weak, and the superficial defensive system is not strong, even mild exertion will induce sweating.

2. Kidney Deficiency Main manifestations: Dyspnea on exertion after longstanding asthma, severe wheezing, indrawing of the soft tissues of the neck, short breath, lassitude and weakness, sweating, and cold limbs. These mean that long-standing asthma affects the kidneys, which are the source of qi. The kidneys in lowered functioning fail to receive qi, and, therefore, dyspnea on exertion, and severe wheezing and short breath appear. When there is deficiency of the kidney qi in a chronic case, emaciation and lassitude happen. Exhausted kidney yang may lead to weakening of the superficial defensive yang, and hence sweating. If the yang qi fails to warm up the body surface, cold limbs appear.

Excess Type 1. Wind-Cold Type Main manifestations: Cough with thin sputum, rapid breathing, accompanied by chills, fever, headache, and anhidrosis at the early stage, absence of thirst, white tongue coating, and superficial and tense pulse. These symptoms mean that the lungs are in charge of respiration and are associated with the skin and hair, which are first attacked by wind cold in the invasive procedure. If wind cold resides in the lungs, the stagnation of Qi and the failure of the lung qi in dispersing wind cold results in a cough with thin sputum and rapid breathing. If wind cold still resides in the superficial part of the body to make the pores close, there appear chills, fever, headache, and anhidrosis.

Woman to Woman: Feeling Comfortable with Massage

Simone Bern R.M.T. Bernal,

How many times have you wanted to have a massage, but just didn't know who to call or who to ask? I know that I had this dilemma for many years before becoming a massage therapist myself. Who do you trust with your body? Who do you trust who will not hurt you? Who do you trust who will be qualified? Who is legitimate? Who is experienced? I think that we all have that feeling of insecurity the first time we meet our new massage therapist. For women especially, we want someone with whom we feel comfortable, someone who can put us at ease. The whole point of a massage is to relax, isn't it? It's difficult to relax when you have so much anxiety and tension over who will be massaging you that day. Many times at a spa or large massage clinic, it's difficult to have the same massage therapist each time that you return. Unfortunately, the turnover rate at these types of places is high and, as soon as you find someone who really makes you feel comfortable and gets rid of all of the pain and stress in your body, he/she is gone and never to be heard from again. Massage is meant to relax the body, to rid the body of tension, and to alleviate areas of pain. A massage session can do this in many different ways. Maybe it will be the soft lighting and beautiful music that finally allow you to relax. Maybe it will be the smooth feel of the linens on the table, or maybe the sweet smells that allow you to let go. All of these things aid us in relaxation. What studies have found, though, is that the actual touch of the person massaging us is what really heals us. When a person touches you, you are allowing him/her into your energy field, into your "space." As a society, we rarely let people get close to us in most situations. When you are receiving a massage, you're not only allowing someone to get close to you, but to touch you. You are trusting this person when you are most vulnerable. That's not

an easy thing to do for most people. But it's the letting go and trusting that allows healing to take place. Once you feel comfortable with your therapist and realize that she has a confident touch and a caring way, you will allow healing. Now the therapist has a chance to get to know you and your body. She will learn what type of massage your body requests and how your body responds. She will be able to learn about your muscles, your areas of tightness, your sensitive areas, and your stubborn areas. She will learn how your body responds. Now that you've found someone who you like, with whom you feel comfortable, and most importantly, someone who you trust, your body feels radiant, relaxed, and loose. Your mind feels calm and soothed. Your aches have improved, and your body is running in tip-top shape. This is what massage therapy is all about! You now have formed a relationship in healing, where both you and your therapist have invested time, energy, and money into your body's well-being. Most massage therapists are healers, meaning that we want to help you. That is our passion! We want to better understand your body, we want to free it of pain and tension, and we want lovingly to help you get the results that you desire. Most massage therapists want to have an ongoing relationship with their clients. We want to see you improve, heal, and flourish. That's what it's all about! Finding that massage therapist who makes you feel safe and trusting may be difficult. Once you do find that special person, it's important to maintain the relationship. Making sure that this person will be available to you again and again should be the top priority. Many people try massage therapy on for size, to see if they like it. Or maybe they've received a gift certificate and are curious. If you're serious about making lasting changes in your body, however, it's imperative that you seek out a therapist who will be available to you time and time again. Your body will thank you for it.

Reiki San Antonio: Chakra Overview

Carolyn Maloney, Columnist

The chakra system is a basic legend or myth that gave the ancients a way to identify what they could see, feel, and understand, but not translate into their common language. In Western medicine, these same areas are the most important, but they have names such as pineal, pituitary, thyroid, heart, spleen, adrenals, kidneys, and intestines. This is not meant to be the defining work on the Chakra system. This is only a guide to facilitate your understanding of how energy flows through the body. Think about the following sayings and words: a headache is identifying that there is just too much going on in the mind; a time of calm and relaxation is needed to balance. Essential Oils: The Missing Link in Modern Medicine

lem. In Proverbs 27:9 we are told that "ointment and perfume rejoice the heart." The New Testament suggests that the incense offering represents the prayers of saints. In Revelations 5:8, "four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, handing every one of them harps, and golden vials of odours, which are the prayers of saints," the King James translators chose to translate the Greek word "thumiama" as "odours," rather than "incense." According to Strong Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible, "thumiama" (Strong's #2368) means "fragrant powder burned in religious services." (See Revelations 8: 3-4.) The ritual use of incense represented God's power over life and death in Numbers 16:46-48 wherein the High Priest Aaron walked through the congregation with it, stopping a deadly plague. Twelve of the most significant single oils found in the Bible, with their beautiful fragrances and intriguing histories are aloes/sandalwood (Santalum album), cassia (Cinnamomum cassia), cedarwood (Cedrus atlantica), cypress (Cupressus sempervirens), frankincense (Olibanum--Boswellia carteri), galbanum (Ferula gummosa), hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis), myrrh (Commiphora myrrha), myrtle (Myrtus communis), onycha (pronounced oh-nigh-kah, a very thick oil, remove the plastic orifice and warm the bottle in your hand so that the oil will flow--Styrax benzoin), Rose of Sharon/ cistus (Labdanum--Cistus ladanifer), and spikenard (Nardostachys jatamansi). Twelve Oils of Ancient Scripture

April Dianne Travis, Ph.D., Columnist

If you have never heard of essential oils, here is a short explanation of what they are. Essential oils are the volatile liquids that are distilled from various parts of plants, including seeds, bark, leaves, stems, roots, flowers, and fruit. They are highly concentrated and far more potent than dried herbs. One drop of peppermint oil is equal in strength and value to 26 cups of peppermint tea! The essential oils of the plant and the human blood share several common properties. They fight infection, contain hormone-like compounds, and initiate regeneration. Working as the chemical defense mechanism of the plant, essential oils possess potent antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobial, and antiviral properties. The molecules of essential oils are also relatively small, giving them the ability easily to penetrate the cells. When topically applied to the feet or elsewhere, essential oils can travel throughout the body in a matter of minutes. Young Living is the firmly established leader in the essential oils industry and has set the standard for the rest of the world. It is the only company of its kind that grows from seed on virgin soil, harvests in greenhouses, distills with low pressure and low temperature, and packages to make sure that there are no pesticides or chemicals of any kind in the product so you are getting 100% pure therapeuticgrade essential oils. Caution: If you look at 95% of the essential oils on the market, even though the label states "pure," they are perfume-grade and

okay for mood enhancement only, but are not therapeutic-grade (medicine) and are often cut with synthetic chemicals. Tip: They must be Afnor/Iso approved oils and often the label will read "supplement." The oils and aromatics mentioned in the Bible were more valuable than gold and silver. Israel's King Hezekiah kept "the spices, and precious ointment" (2 Kings, 20:13) together with silver and gold in the royal treasure chamber. The Greek historian Pliny, the Elder, documented the stringent security measures taken in the processing of frankincense at Alexandria, Egypt: "Good heavens! No vigilance is sufficient to guard the factories...before (the workers) are allowed to leave the premises they have to take off all their clothes." Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary defines anoint as "to apply oil as a sacred rite, esp. for consecration." It has been suggested that the holy anointing oil described in Exodus 30:23-25 is a symbol of being set apart for special purposes in God's kingdom. People and objects were anointed throughout the Bible: Aaron and his sons were anointed priests, the Tabernacle and all of its vessels were anointed before being put into service, and Saul and David were anointed to be kings. The Hebrew word for messiah, moschiach, means "Anointed One." Jesus Christ was twice anointed with oil of spikenard, which was so expensive that Judas was indignant that it wasn't sold to raise money for the poor. God mandated that the anointing oil be fragrant when he instructed Moses to add spices and fragrant oils to the base of pure olive oil. Psalm 45 informs us that the garments of the Messiah are fragrant with myrrh, aloes, and cassia. In one Bible translation of Philippians 4:18, Paul described gifts given as "a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God." Incense was offered twice daily in the Tabernacle and later in the temple in

Susan sighed, "I'm here today because I want my business to be successful. I started a company a year ago, but it's still not profitable. I have a list of things that I need to do to move forward with, but I find I don't do anything on the list. I procrastinate and sabotage myself. I feel really stuck. I'd like to see what Holographic Repatterning can do to help me move forward." "I don't want to see myself being perfect, and I don't want to see myself being successful." The Holographic Repatterning system led us to the statement, "I cut off my outer seeing because I am afraid of losing my inner connection." Now we were getting to the heart of the matter. Susan's eyes began to brim with tears. "I'm beginning to understand it now," she said. "I used to work in the corporate world and I was very successful there, but I got so busy that I totally lost myself. I didn't even know who I was. I'm so afraid of losing my inner self again, that I would rather not be successful than to have that happen." Susan's Inner Child wanted validation that she would be respected and remembered. After doing the modalities, we went back and muscle checked Susan's statements. Now she was able to resonate completely with loving herself unconditionally, and also being committed to herself and her business. She was also able to see herself as a successful business owner with a very happy Inner Child. Susan took a huge step forward in her life at that appointment. Holographic Repatterning helped her toward her goal of owning a successful business. I want to thank Susan for giving me permission to share her story. It is her hope that others may relate to her story and choose to get help in moving forward in their lives. Where are you stuck in your life? What life patterns do you have that hold you back? In most situations, we find that we are totally unaware of the blocks that hold us back. Holographic Repatterning is a wonderful way to find the blocks, release them, and to grasp the reigns of your new tomorrow. The future is waiting for you. Are you ready to embrace it? Use Holographic Repatterning to move through the stuck places in your life and on to a more fulfilling, coherent, and energizing life.

Age Reversal and Probiotics

Beth Carpenter

Many years ago for my sixteenth birthday, my family and my boyfriend's family had a birthday party for me just east of El Paso. There are lots of sand dunes in the desert. Steve had a dune buggy, and we were laughing and having fun riding around and over the sand dunes. Afterwards when we were settling down to eat, Steve and I were being all flirty and kissy. Steve's father looked at us and then at my father as he said, "What I would give to have the energy and excitement of my youth and the wisdom of my years." I remember that as if it were yesterday, most especially now that I'm in my mid-forties. For over twenty years, I have explored, practiced, and educated myself in healthier approaches, while enjoying the exploration of alternative modalities. All the while, I helped thousands of people to understand healthier life-styles and alternative modalities. Fortunately, today it's easier than ever. Many years ago, I learned that the digestive and elimination capabilities of our bodies were of utmost importance in the overall health of the body. It must be top priority to keep the body diseasefree. This school of thought holds that ill health begins in the colon, through a process of "auto-intoxication." Waste products and toxins from the colon seep into the bloodstream and initiate the diseases of old age. With the entry of antibiotics, there began a greater destruction of the microflora (friendly bacteria) in the GI (gastro-intestinal) tract. Because of the destroyed microflora, a person's resistance to GI infections was reduced. When there is a lack of healthy microflora, mentally and emotionally we become scattered, frustrated, angry, bored, demanding, and untrusting in our relationships. As the body feels better, so, too, does the mind. As the mind becomes more at peace, so, too, does the body. Know that the aging process can and will reverse! How do we return to a healthier and more energetic self? By improving and encouraging healthy digestion, assimilation, and elimination. Using probiotics is a great way to ensure that the intestines have an abundant supply of friendly bacteria (microflora). Let's take a glance at how probiotics benefit us.

· · · · · · ·

looking skin Prevent the growth of harmful bacteria and fungi Maintain healthy cholesterol and triglyceride levels Rebuild and stabilize hormones; this helps reverse the skin-withering effects of aging Create lactic acid, which balances intestinal pH, which helps reduce feelings of being edgy, cranky, and out-of-sorts Guard against cancer cell formation Boost your energy and vitality Promote the manufacture of B vitamins, plus A and K and essential fatty acids (another source of higher energy levels)

Most probiotics are ineffective in providing friendly microflora because they are broken down and digested in the stomach before they can get into the intestines. There is a probiotic the FDA has tested that actually does what it says it does by getting into the intestines and is from a vegetable derivative. How exciting! With modern technology, we can have both--the energy of our youth with the wisdom of our years. FYI: Screening for probiotic attributes: Strain selection is important. The strain used should have the following attributes for it to implant and have a beneficial effect: [Conway, P.L., and Henriksson, A. (1994). Strategies for the isolation and characterization of functional probiotics. In Human health: The contribution of microorganisms. Springer-Verlag. And Fuller, R. (1991). Probiotics in human medicine. Gut 32:439-442.] 1. Adhere to the mucosal surface of the GI tract (to prevent being washed out by peristalsis) 2. Produce metabolites inhibitory or antagonistic to the indigenous microflora (to improve its chance of becoming established in the gut) 3. Survive the rigors of transit through the GI tract (such as exposure to stomach and bile acids) 4. Pose antagonism toward a particular, target pathogen
