Stephanie B. Casteel

Stephanie (Stevie) Casteel practices as a Partner with Wallace, Morrison & Casteel LLP, a Trusts & Estates and Exempt Organizations law firm located in Atlanta, Georgia. Prior to forming her own firm in early 2011, she practiced for several years as a Partner with the Atlanta office of King & Spalding LLP in the firm's Tax Practice Group. Ms. Casteel's practice includes wealth transfer, business succession planning, prenuptial agreements, charitable planning and tax-exempt entities. Ms. Casteel advises exempt organizations on the tax laws that govern them, and she has expertise with the formation of tax-exempt entities, joint ventures and other transactions among tax-exempt entities, corporate sponsorships, the formation and governance of lobbying and political affiliates of charitable organizations, corporate governance, grant making, the excess benefit rules and executive compensation, private foundations and supporting organizations, and excise tax rules. Ms. Casteel is a fellow of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) and is an appointed member of its Charitable Planning and Exempt Organizations committee and New Fellows Steering Committee. Ms. Casteel serves as Chair of the Legislative and Regulatory Issues Committee of the Charitable Planning and Exempt Organizations Group of the Real Property, Trust & Estate Law Section of the American Bar Association (ABA). Ms. Casteel also serves the ABA as an Associate Probate and Trust Articles Editor for Property & Probate and as a member of the Sponsorship Committee. Ms. Casteel most recently served on the Trust Code Steering Committee, Fiduciary Legislation Committee, and Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act Drafting Committee of the Fiduciary Section of the State Bar of Georgia, and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Atlanta Estate Planning Council. Ms. Casteel is a frequent writer and lecturer. She has written articles for The Practical Tax Lawyer, EO Tax Journal, Property & Probate, Estate Planning, Atlanta Woman, Tech Journal

South, The Georgia State Bar Journal, and Family Advisor, and she has been quoted in Bloomberg, Worth Magazine, the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Pink Magazine, and The Sunday Paper. Ms. Casteel has given lectures across the nation to groups of the ABA, ACTEC, ALIABA, the Southern Federal Tax Conference, the American National Standards Institute, the Southeastern Conference of Foundations, the Georgia Federal Tax Conference, WEDU (Tampa, Florida) and the State Bar of Georgia. Ms. Casteel has been named a Georgia Super Lawyer by Atlanta Magazine annually since 2004, as one of the Top 50 Women Lawyers since 2009. She was selected as one of Georgia Trend's 2010 Legal Elite and has been selected by her peers to be included in the Best Lawyers in America Guide in the areas of both Non-Profit/Charities Law and Trust & Estates since 2009. Ms. Casteel graduated with honors from Agnes Scott College in 1988. She received her law degree with distinction in 1991 from Emory University, where she served as managing editor of the Emory Law Journal and was elected to Order of the Coif. She served from 1991-1992 as law clerk to the Honorable Morey L. Sear of the Eastern District of Louisiana. Ms. Casteel serves as the Immediate Past Chair of the Foundations Committee of the Woodruff Arts Center annual campaign, and she was awarded the Charles R. Yates award for her work on this committee in 2007. Ms. Casteel serves on the Planned Giving Committee of Atlanta's United Way and Piedmont Hospital, she is a former board member of G-CAPP, and she has participated in Atlanta Women's Foundation's "Women on Board" program. Ms. Casteel and her husband, Bob Fehskens, have a four-year old son and reside in Buckhead.
