AGENDA

GLOBAL CHALLENGES

Keynote session Presented By "The Business of Sustainability Moving Beyond the Triple Bottom Line" Our nation indeed, the entire world - is at a strategic inflection point. Globally, each year 1.5 million people die as a result water-related illnesses, while 16,000 children alone die from hunger-related causes. The situation is likely to become more dire as global populations grow to an expected 10 billion-plus by 2100. Energy usage will rise 70 percent by 2050. And the race for clean water is now and will continue to be relentless. The reality that we all confront is that as the world gets smaller and humankind's problems become more complex and challenging the stakes are raised for all of us. There is clear and convincing evidence that we will not be able to meet tomorrow's challenges with yesterday's mindset. In this presentation, Dow Chemicals & Energy President Carol Williams will discuss a new way to approach the idea of building stronger communities in order to meet those global challenges. Although the private sector's triple bottom line mentality of the past did help focus much-needed light on the economic, environmental and social impact of businesses' actions, the companies that are successful in the future will be those that mo ve beyond that philosophy. To survive and thrive in the 21st century, companies must integrate sustainability into their business models. Ms. Williams will discuss how companies can move toward this integration by focusing on solving the greatest challenges of clean water, affordable food and secure energy. Carol Williams, Group Senior Vice President & Executive Vice President, Manufacturing & Engineering, Dow Chemical ICT Session Presented By Emerging Technologies for Sustainability Innovation I ICT technologies are enabling industries to significantly lower their use of natural resources and fundamentally transform industries in the low carbon eenvironment. HP has been innovating in this area for many years and is at the forefront of many of these technological advances. Session Sponsored by Sustainability and Life Cycle Analysis: the challenges and opportunities Sustainability is increasingly important to both consumers and in businesses. To be sustainable encompasses 3 factors: environmental, economic and social. The environmental factor can be understood by undertaking a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA). This presents an opportunity for manufacturers to uncover environmental hot spots, spark inventiveness and focus resources where they can make the most impact. As a result, greater value can be delivered. This presentation will cover the current situation in the USA, examining the pressures on businesses looking to balance cost manag ement efficiency and effectiveness with greater environmental responsibility. How the environment is only one element of the overall Sustainable solution How a Life Cycle Analysis can be scoped and undertaken The challenges and issues around undertaking such a project The benefits which can be derived from implementing a program to reduce carbon as a result of understanding the impact of a Life Cycle Assessment Stan Silva, National Accounts Development Manager, Dyson Commercial MORNING NETWORKING & COFFEE BREAK & VENDOR SHOWCASE Sponsored by

STRATEGIES RISKS & OPPORTUNITIES

Session Presented By Is Your Organization Positioned to Meet the Challenge of Climate Change? This session examines the risks and opportunities related to climate change for businesses, nonprofit institutions, and governmental org anizations and explores the emerging role of the climate change officer. It is critical for organizations to have strong executive-level leadership that is empowered to leverage resources and personnel throughout the organization. Given the far-reaching implications of climate change for industry and government, there is a need to examine organizational structures and culture, to establish an empowered climate change leadership function--including a dedicated climate change officer-- able to engage all organizational components, and to incorporate climate change response into job descriptions and expectatio ns. Daniel Kreeger, Executive Director, Association of Climate Change Officers RESPONSIBLE ICT RECYCLING Session Presented By Implementing an efficient E-Waste program at your Company BAN is the world's only organization focused on confronting the global environmental injustice and economic inefficiency of toxic trade (toxic wastes, products and technologies) and its devastating impacts. Working at the nexus of human rights and environment, we confront the issues o f environmental justice at a macro level, preventing disproportionate and unsustainable dumping of the world's toxic waste and pollution on our global vill age's poorest residents. At the same time we actively promote the sustainable and just solutions to our consumption and waste crises -- banning waste trade, while promoting green, toxic free and democratic design of consumer products. How do you know what they want when it comes to CSR?, what does it mean for purchasing and loyalty? How publicly should companies commit to the CSR objectives? Methods to promote a renewable purchase

Tim Swanson, Vice President of Business Operations, Sterling Planet CONSERVATION Session Presented By How ESPN went from a 48% to a 70% waste diversion rate We began assessing our waste streams in 2004 and at that time our waste diversion rate was approximately 46%. We developed programs to recycle cans/bottles, wire and cable, all batteries (even dry cell), electronics, waste vegetable oil, among other things. As we become more sophis ticated in separating and assessing our waste streams, we formed an internal green team to identify opportunities to reduce or eliminate waste. Some of their ideas were implemented the elimination of coffee cups in kitchenettes (everyone at ESPN receives a re-usable coffee mug), eliminating the use of water bottles and providing employees re-usable water bottles, and eliminating Styrofoam in our cafeteria. The elimination of Styrofoam was a big step; we now use only biodegradable food packaging and we actively promote the use of china and re-usable flatware. At the same time, we began composting our food waste along with the biodegradable food packaging. Later efforts include the inclusion of waste reduction goals in all construction and renovation projects. In 2010, our waste diversion rate stands at 70%, a 22% increase since 2004. Session Presented by The global electrical distribution channel plays a key role in energy usage reduction and sustainability With the combination of rising energy prices (oil, gas and electricity) and ever-increasing electricity consumption (Eutelsat expects electricity consumption growth of 76% by 2030), both energy savings and renewable energies are more needed more than ever. Such efforts are universally regarded as the natural solutions that will prevent disastrous energy tensions. The global electrical distribution channel plays a key role in energy usage reduction and sustainability.

Electrical distributors are uniquely positioned to recommend and deliver renewable energy solutions, such as photovoltaic (so lar) and, more recently, small wind turbines. With their unmatched strength in supply chain, they are the key channel to bring to customers the right equipment for the rig ht application. Already the contractors' preferred vendor, electrical distribution can manage or provide for turnkey installation services for the entire range of energy solutions, from lighting retrofits to electric vehicle charging stations and more. Christopher Hartmann, Executive Vice President and CEO of Rexel Holdings USA, a leading U.S. electrical distributor with annual sales of $3.5B, will explain how electrical distributors in the USA accelerate the deployment of en ergy efficient and renewable energy solutions in the commercial construction industrial sectors, cutting costs and enhancing the s ustainability reputations of companies every day. Mr. Hartmann is able to offer his unique insights drawn from a career in the electrical industry working in a variety of functions both on the manufacturing side as well as in the supply chain. Speaker GREEN COMMUNITIES SESSION L 3.25PM-3:55PM Session Sponsored & Presented By "Building Green, Saving Green". Low-income households spend disproportionately more on their energy and water bills than moderate income households often putting them in the untenable position of having to chose between paying the rent and keeping the lights on. Providing opportunities to live in energy efficient, water conserving, healthy housing can significantly ease the financial burdens on families and individuals while reducing carbon emissions and creating jobs. Enterprise has been working to make green and affordable housing one and the same through their nationally recognized Green Communities Initiative. COMMUNICATING YOUR SUSTAINABILITY MESSAGE SESSION B 9.00AM-9.30AM Session Presented By & Building a Sustainable Corporate Reputation We all know that a sustainable approach to business is good for the world and for the bottom line. But what about the impact of sustainable business practices on your company's reputation? Increasingly, your company's success in managing today's complex ESG issues is an essent ial element of your overall corporate reputation. From customers and employees to policymakers and critics, a broad spectrum of stakeholders wants to know how your businesses is integrating sustainability into operations and the impact those efforts are having on your business, on the environment and on the communities you serve. But when is the right time to talk about an initiative as it's being conceived, or after it's fully operational and the results are in? And what about the dangers of being perceived as tooting your own horn? Isn't it better to have others speak on your behalf? In this session, you'll hear from Lee Broughton of Enterprise Holdings and Becky Vollmer of Fleishman-Hillard about best practices in communicating your sustainability commitments and progress, engaging third parties and telling your story in the digital age.
