HP Service Pack for ProLiant, v2013.02.0

HP Smart Update, www.hp.com/go/smartupdate is the umbrella technology name that encompasses several products including both HP Smart Update Manager (HP SUM) and the HP Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP). The HP Smart Update website serves as a 'one-stop shop' portal for not only HP SUM and the SPP but also other products such as the Scripting Toolkit for Windows and Linux, the USB Key Utility for Windows. The HP Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) with HP Smart Update Manager (HP SUM) as the deployment engine provides a comprehensive approach to firmware and system software maintenance. Together they provide better operating stability and ensure maximum uptime. The SPP is released with most major HP ProLiant server releases and its contents are validated to ensure that there is inter-compatibility between versions. The SPP is a comprehensive collection of firmware and system software components, all tested together as a single solution stack that include drivers, agents, utilities, firmware packages for HP ProLiant servers, controllers, storage, blades and enclosures, and other options. It is available on all supported HP ProLiant Gen 8 servers (HP ProLiant SL/ML/DL 100, 200, 300, 500, 700, 900 servers, HP BladeSystems series servers, and HP CloudSystem Matrix) in addition to earlier generation HP ProLiant servers. By enabling firmware and systems software to be updated online and integrating these updates into one operation, the SPP with HP SUM offers faster updates of individual HP ProLiant servers and dramatically faster updates of entire BladeSystem enclosures. The SPP can be used as a baseline and it can be customized by selecting specific components for deployment to establish a custom baseline. Hot Fixes and Supplement releases are available to deliver out of cycle component updates to the customer in a timely manner without waiting for the next SPP release. Further improving system uptime and stability is the fact that you only need to update your SPP every 12 months. Customers are fully supported on any SPP version within the documented support window. The SPP has been solution tested with specific attention to interaction between firmware, drivers and agents both within the server as well as within the BladeSystem enclosure components. This testing ensures the highest quality as well as providing the input for HP SUM to deploy updates taking into account all interdependencies when determining the correct updates and order of update deployment. The SPP is delivered as a family of deliverables with a full ISO and six subset ISOs broken out by HP ProLiant server/operating system types. Each subset ISO version includes needed software and firmware smart components required for its specific audience and allows for a customized solution and faster download. The ISOs available are: HP Service Pack for ProLiant BladeSystem Red Hat Enterprise Linux Pack BladeSystem SUSE Linux Enterprise Server Pack BladeSystem Microsoft Windows Server Pack ProLiant ML/DL/SL Red Hat Enterprise Linux Pack ProLiant ML/DL/SL SUSE Linux Enterprise Server Pack ProLiant ML/DL/SL Microsoft Windows Server Pack By simplifying the delivery of ProLiant Systems Software and firmware into the SPP customers will reduce the following expenditures which will result in better TCO: Qualification cycles Resource usage Maintenance windows Downtime NOTE: There are no SPP subsets for VMware OS support. Use the full SPP ISO to deploy to servers running VMware. Hot Fixes are important firmware or software component updates that have been approved as out of cycle releases to get them to customers faster. Hot Fixes are tested individually against the current SPP and earlier SPPs within their support window. They are well documented as Customer Advisories (CAs) to help customers understand the problem addressed. You may "cherry pick" Hot Fix updates as a practical way to manage the impact of these changes in the context of your business. Hot Fixes are included as part of an SPP's support window. An SPP Supplement is a bundle released out of cycle containing software and/or firmware components with HP SUM as the deployment tool. It may include support for a new operating system update or functionality that is not included in the SPP but works with the components in the SPP. Supplements allow HP to deliver new driver or functionality support when it is needed so customers do not have to wait on a full SPP´s availability. Support for SPP Supplements are included as part of the associated SPP's support window. The SPP pages are easily accessible on HP ProLiant servers and BladeSystems left navigation bars so accessing the SPP is never more than 2 clicks away.
