Introduction

Microsoft® Windows® Small Business Server (SBS) 2011Essentials is a new edition of Small Business Server developed for small businesses (up to 25 users) with limited in-house Information Technology (IT) skills. This integration note gives you guidance for installing SBS 2011Essentials on HP ProLiant servers. Advantages of Small Business Server 2011Essentials

SBS 2011 Essentials is new to the Windows Small Business Server products. SBS 2011 Essentials includes the Microsoft Windows Server® 2008 R2 code base and provides a complete 64-bit technology solution for small businesses with up to 25 users. The advantages of SBS 2011 Essentials include: · Increasing data and network protection · Providing on-site services for the following: ­ File and print ­ Security ­ Backup ­ Remote access ­ Identity management The Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2011 Premium Add-On option provides data management and analysis solutions. Installed on an additional server, it includes a licensed copy of Microsoft® Windows Server® 2008 R2 Standard Edition as well as Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition for Small Business. Table 1 lists the key features of SBS 2011 Essentials.

Recommended configuration

Microsoft has established the recommended system configurations listed in this section for SBS 2011 Essentials. These requirements are subject to change. Carefully review this document for the recommended system configuration and possible issues. Do not use this paper as the sole source of information. For system requirement updates, see the Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials Home Page at www.microsoft.com/sbs/en/us/beta.aspx. Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials is a 64-bit server product and has undergone testing with the following processor families: · Intel® Xeon® Processors with Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (EM64T) · Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD64) OpteronTM Series Processors

*Available disk space is the free disk space on the partition that will contain the system files. Additional

space is required to copy the SBS 2011 Essentials CD contents to the hard disk during installation. Computers with more than 16 GB of RAM will require more disk space for paging and dump files.

Recommended ProLiant servers

Recommended components for ProLiant servers

For information on the subsystems that we suggest for SBS 2011 Essentials, you should review the following sections before installing the OS. Software drivers Update your system using HP ProLiant Support Pack (PSP) for Windows Server 2008 R2 8.70 before installing SBS 2011 Essentials. For the link to the PSP for Windows Server 2008 R2 8.70, see the HP Business Support Center website at www.hp.com/go/bizsupport. Storage options SBS 2011Essentials has undergone testing with the storage options listed in Table 4. Some devices may have software or driver updates on the HP website or firmware upgrades available in a Systems ROMPaq Firmware Upgrade download. The latest versions of each software, drivers, and Systems ROMPaq are available on the HP Business Support Center. Before beginning the installation, see the HP Business Support Center website at www.hp.com/go/bizsupport.

Network interface controllers SBS 2011Essentials has undergone testing with the NICs listed in Table 5. Some devices may have software or driver updates on the HP website or firmware upgrades available in a Systems ROMPaq Firmware Upgrade download. Installing Small Business Server 2011 Essentials on ProLiant servers

The following are the steps you should take before and during installation of the OS on your server.

Pre-installation tasks

Perform the following tasks to prepare for installation: · Make sure you are using a recommended server. · Install the latest ROM for the server. For the ROM download, see the HP Business Support Center at www.hp.com/go/bizsupport. · If necessary, use the ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU) to set date/time and configure the boot controller order. · Use the Array Configuration Utility to configure the RAID settings for the server. · If necessary, update iLO 2 or iLO 3 firmware. To download the latest iLO firmware, see the HP Business Support Center at www.hp.com/go/bizsupport.

SmartStart installation

Complete the following steps to install Windows SBS 2011 Essentials using Smart Start 8.70:

1. Start the HP SmartStart Assisted Installation using either of the following methods:

­ SmartStart 8.70 DVD: To install Windows SBS 2011 Essentials using the SmartStart 8.70 DVD and the Windows SBS 2011 Essentials media, you need a DVD drive either installed or attached to the server. Insert the SmartStart 8.70 DVD into the DVD drive, and then boot the server to the SmartStart DVD. ­ SmartStart 8.70 x64 image: To install Windows SBS 2011 Essentials using SmartStart 8.70 x64 and Windows SBS 2011 Essentials ISO image files, mount the SmartStart 8.70 x64 image through iLO. You can access image file on either: o A USB key attached to the server receiving the installation. -Oro A network drive that you can access from the server receiving the installation.

2. Click the circular radio button preceding the name of the language you want to install. 3. Select the keyboard for your environment from the drop-down list. 4. If you agree to the End-User License Agreement, click Agree. 5. Click Install to begin the OS installation. 6. On Server Deployment-Hardware Configuration page, click Continue. 7. On the Server Deployment-Operating System Selection page, select Microsoft Windows 2008 R2

under the "Select Specific Operating System Version" heading, and then click Continue.

8. Click the circular radio button preceding the name of the Operating System Source Type:

­ If you are using the SmartStart 8.70 DVD, select DVD-ROM Media. ­ If you are using images located on the network, select Network File Share. ­ If you are using images located on a USB key, select USB Key.

9. Click the circular radio button preceding the name of the Operating System Source Format:

­ If you are using the SmartStart DVD, select Flat files (default format). ­ If you are using image files, select CD/DVD File (.ISO format).

10. Follow the prompts to enter the product set up information that is appropriate for your installation. 11. Complete the SmartStart configuration wizards by setting the WBEM and SNMP information and

ProLiant Support Pack installation options to fit your requirements.

12. Complete the installation and allow SmartStart to reboot.

Manual installation

Manually install SBS 2011 Essentials from the Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials media.

NOTE A license key is required to use iLO virtual media with HP ProLiant ML or DL servers.

Complete the following steps to install SBS 2011 Essentials:

1. Make sure that the server has a DVD drive (either installed or attached to the server). 2. Insert the Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials media into the DVD drive and boot the

server to the DVD to begin the installation.

3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. 4. If the drivers for the storage controller or NIC is not found, download the driver from the HP

website as follows:

a. Go to the HP website. b. Select the Support and Drivers tab. c. Select Download drivers and software (and firmware) for step 1.

d. Type the server product name (for example, ProLiant DL380 G6) in step 2. e. Click Go. f. Select Microsoft Windows 2008 R2 for the operating system.

g. Under Quick jumps to downloads, select the appropriate Driver ­ Storage Controller and the Driver ­ Network for your component. h. Save the driver to a USB key to use during OS installation.

HP ProLiant MicroServer installation

To install SBS 2011 Essentials on the ProLiant MicroServer, follow the guidelines provided in the document entitled "Implementing Microsoft® Windows® Server 2008 R2 Foundation on the HP ProLiant MicroServer." For an overview of the ProLiant MicroServer series of products, see the HP website at

Installing the ProLiant Support Pack

Getting PSP updates After installing SBS 2011 Essentials, update your system using PSP for Windows Server 2008 R2 8.70. For the links to the PSP for Windows Server 2008 R2 8.70 and driver and software updates, see the HP Business Support Center at www.hp.com/go/bizsupport.

IMPORTANT The PSP does not apply to ProLiant 100 series servers or HP ProLiant MicroServers. For these products, download drivers from the HP website as indicated in step 4 of the "Manual installation" section.

Installing the PSP After downloading the PSP self-extracting executable, complete the following steps:

1. Go to the directory where you saved the PSP executable. 2. Double-click the executable (psp-8.70.w2k8R2.x64.exe) and extract the PSP to a desired location. 3. Go to the directory where the extracted PSP is located. 4. Double-click hpsum.exe to start the PSP deployment.

NOTE All PSP files must reside in the same directory as the setup.exe file.

5. The Source Selection screen appears. Verify that the directory path in the Directory field has the

location of the smart components from the PSP, and then select Start Inventory.

6. HP Smart Update Manager performs an inventory of the installed hardware and software, and

checks for available updates. After the inventory and discovery processes finish, the Select Installation Hosts screen appears. Select either the local host or one (or more) remote hosts for PSP deployment. Select the bundle and the appropriate filter options. For remote deployments, additional screens allow you to update information on a per-host basis. to complete the following tasks: a. Select the components to install. b. If necessary, configure the components. c. Review failed dependencies before starting the installation.

7. After selecting the host(s), the Select bundle filter screen displays the PSP bundle information.

8. After selecting the bundle for all hosts being updated, open the Select Items to be Installed screen

d. Review the revision history of the components.

9. After selecting the components, click Install. When the installation is complete, the Installation

Results screen appears. If the PSP installs successfully, the process is complete. a. Exit HP Smart Update Manager. b. Make the required update to the environment.

10. If one or more components did not install successfully, complete the following steps:

Restart the installation of the PSP.

Known issues and workarounds

Table 6 lists one known issue with ProLiant servers and SBS 2011 Essentials.

Description The text on certain buttons in the Repair option is not localized and only displays in English. This issue is scheduled to be resolved in a future release of the OS.

Solution Issue 2

In the multi-language installation, the Date and time settings screen does not display the time zone. Description During installation of the multi language pact, the Date and time settings screen does not display the time zone. Although the time zone does not display, you can manually set the time zone and the date and time. The values you set will be saved in the configuration. This issue is scheduled to be resolved in a future release of the OS.
