Additional requirements: o You must have network access to the public Internet, and specifically to www.hp.com/go/hpvl If you are behind a firewall (or access the internet via a web proxy gateway), it must allow you to access SSL-protected sites outside your intranet.

o The first time you access HPVL from any supported PC, you must do so using an

account with Administrator privileges in order to install the required ActiveX components. Known Incompatibilities: o The local Firewall on your PC may need to be disabled for the initial installation.

Accessing HP Virtual Labs (HPVL): A Concise Overview (A detailed step-by-step example, with screen shots, is in the following section)

1) Point one of the approved browsers to connect to www.hp.com/go/hpvl and click on Access Virtual Lab Environment 2) At the "Remote Access Login for HP Virtual Labs" Screen, enter the username and password as provided to you by your instructor, and click "Logon". 3) On the HPVL Portal welcome page, click on "HPVL Lab Access" to launch the Terminal Services webtop application. The first time you connect, you must click YES once to accept the networking components of the Firepass TS Webtop client ActiveX object. If prompted, click "yes" to accept any SSL certificates. 4) Once the TS Webtop connection is complete (20-30 seconds), a web-based Desktop ("webtop") page containing an IE browser which displays your HPVL Labgroup(s) will automatically be displayed. 5) You may now select the Labgroup and labs required for your training event. HPVL Lab Access: Detailed Connection procedure Log into the HPVL Portal 1) Point one of the approved browsers to connect to www.hp.com/go/hpvl and click on Access Virtual Lab Environment 2) At the Login Screen, enter the student username and password as provided to you by your instructor.

3) Once you are logged-in, you will see the HPVL Portal welcome page:

Establish the HPVL Lab Access "Webtop" 1. Click on the "HPVL Lab Access" link (under Terminal Servers) to launch the web-based Terminal Services Desktop, or "Webtop".

2. The "F5 Application Access" Webtop window will appear, in which a browser window will automatically display your assigned HPVL Labgroup. All lab activities (telnet, RDP access, web management of lab devices) will take place within the "F5 Application Access" Webtop. 3. 4. When the Webtop is used for the first time, it will automatically install the ActiveX networking component on your PC. The first time you connect, you must click YES to accept the networking components of the F5 Access client software (approx. 1 MByte total):

Notes: a) Local admin privileges are required to install the software. Non-privileged users then can use the TS Webtop, too. If your login has no administrator rights, you will encounter an error message like this one: "Sorry, ActiveX control is required to view this page"

5. You are successfully connected once you see the "F5 Application Access" Webtop window, similar to the one show below (20-60 seconds). Your course-specific Labgroup will be displayed on this page, inside of an IE Browser on your Webtop Your Labgroup will probably differ from the one shown below.

Note: You can shrink the size of the browser window in your Webtop, so that other popup windows used in your lab (such as telnet or RDP windows) are more easily visible. To do th is, click on the "minimize" button on the browser in your Webtop:

You may now resize and move the browser within the Webtop:

Using HP Virtual Labs Accessing a lab To Access your lab, click on your Labgroup. If more than one lab is displayed, your instructor will provide you with instructions on which Lab to run. To run a Lab, click the "Run Lab" link next to the appropriate lab in your Labgroup.

Accessing HPVL Lab systems To Access the systems in your lab, follow the instructions on the displayed lab page, or as provided by your instructor. Typically, you will click on images or links that are displayed on the page. In the lab displayed below, to establish a telnet session to the hp-ux system, click on the image of the system (circled):

The telnet window appears in the Webtop, and the username/password can be entered to access the system:

Exiting a Lab When you are finished with a HPVL lab, close any open telnet/RDP or other secondary windows in your Webtop, and then click the "Exit Lab" button at the bottom of the current lab page.

Logging out of HPVL 1) Once you have exited your lab, close the browser in your Webtop. This will automatically log you out of the Webtop, and leave the system ready for your next access.

2) Click the F5/HPVL Logout link and close the window.
