Job Description Job Title: Learning for Life Parent Educator General Function: Following successful completion of the Born to Learn Institute Prenatal to 3 years and certification as a parent educator. Provide parent education through regular personal visits implementing the Born to Learn Curriculum Prenatal to 3 Years, asses family needs and provide developmentally appropriate information, guidance and support to parents, Parent Educators must also support and enhance the work of existing Parents as Teachers program, represent the Parents as Teachers program at various community events supporting families and/or young children, and coordinate services with other community programs offering services to parents and their young children. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned. Maintains regular attendance. Complies with State Law, agency and county policies and regulations. Maintains confidentiality; unquestionable integrity. Provides personal visits to families on assigned caseload sharing developmental information and addressing parent concerns. Assists in the planning and facilitation of group activities and meetings. Provides screening services to children birth to three years of age. Monitors child's development (on caseload) and keeps parents informed of progress. Maintains accurate records of all personal visits, contacts, screenings, end-of ­year report, etc. Provides resource networking. Attends all staff meetings. Provides early detection of developmental delays and helps parents accept early intervention. Provides Born to Learn curriculum based activities and materials.

CHARACTERISTIC JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Serve the number of families determined by program guidelines, including successful completion of face-to-face visits and group meetings. Complete all required documentation regarding home visits attendance records for group meeting and other Parents as Teachers events, screening summaries and all essential records required by the program, in a timely and comprehensive manner. Become qualified to administer developmental screenings, support families in seeking appropriate resources based on the results of screenings when needed. Actively recruit families to participate in the program Participate in regular, relationship-based supervision with the Parents as Teachers supervisor and engage in setting personal goals for self-development Engage in on-going learning about issues related to cultural sensitivity and competency Demonstrate an appropriate level of knowledge about what promotes optimal parent-child interaction and infant, toddler, and child development. Participate in reviewing and analyzing results of evaluation tools used by the program

JOB SPECIFICATIONS Knowledge and/or Ability to: Engage, establish trust, develop relationships, and collaborate effectively with individuals and families from a wide range of backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives Provide services in a culturally competent manner Promote respect and encourage independence Use appropriate methods of support and establish professional boundaries with families Observe and understand child, individual, and family functioning Educate families about child development, child rearing, and positive personal development Identify and build on strengths and family priorities Assess needs, risks, and safety Recognize and address problems related to substance use, mental health, domestic violence, and child abuse and neglect Collaborate with community providers Link families with needed services offered by other community providers Uses appropriate work-related behavior, dress, and attitude toward fellow professionals Establishes and maintains appropriate professional relationships with families Adheres to required confidentiality practices Monitors and manages a healthy balance between personal and professional responsibilities Uses time and resources effectively to manage personal stress and meet job requirements Create complete charts and records for each child Create and submit timely reporting for each visit, as well as, quarterly and annual reports Prioritize families for greatest risks or greatest need for services. Physical Abilities: Must have the ability to bend, twist, stretch, and reach with body, arms, and legs. Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs Must be able to sit on the floor during family visits

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS A college degree in early childhood education or a related field of study, supervised experience working with young children and their parents is preferred. Parent Educators must successfully complete the Born to Learn Institute Prenatal to 3, and if required the 3 to 5 Years and certification as a parent educator. They must complete the Follow-up training within 6 months of attending the Born to Learn Institute Prenatal to 3 Years. Parent Educators must also maintain current certification as a parent educator, by completing the required professional development hours for years of service. Will require successful completion of Mandatory Child and Dependent Adult Abuse training.
