Board Approved: 08/83 TEACHER (EMOTIONALLY HANDICAPPED) DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION: The Teacher of Emotionally Handicapped will work with children, their families, teachers, the school psychologist, the Diagnostic and Resource System, and community, state, and federal agencies as both a resource person and a teacher of the emotionally handicapped. This person shall report directly to the principal. RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The percentages listed below reflect the amount of time spent on each area of responsibility. These percentages are estimates and may change on a daily basis. · · · · · · · · · · · · · Obtain psychological information from the school psychologist Obtain psychiatric and psychological information from the guidance center Obtain diagnostic information through classroom observation and interviews Serve as resource teacher to teachers and help them remediate disturbed children in regular classes Conduct therapy through individual, group, and family counseling Keep records of children's progress in overcoming emotional difficulties Take advantage of inservice training to improve skills and knowledge Use the FLRS and Diagnostic Resource System Attend departmental meetings Order well in advance materials and equipment to expand and improve the program Develop and implement individual educational programs for each student Submit an annual program evaluation, according to District procedures, to the principal and the Director of Exceptional Student Education Perform other tasks as directed by the immediate supervisor

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: · Must be able to establish rapport with students · Must be able to establish positive relationships with parents and fellow workers · Must be able to apply appropriate knowledge and skills to aid in rehabilitation · Certification is expected in the area for the emotionally disturbed as well as experience in both regular and E.D. classrooms TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: · 10-month employment · Salary based upon approved Instructional salary schedule JOB CODE #: · #52006 PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL: · Annual evaluation by the principal
