Herpetology Notes

Call for papers

Founded in 2008, Herpetology Notes is an online-only open access journal published by the Societas Europaea Herpetologica and hosted on the SEH web server. PDF files of the accepted manuscripts are posted online immediately upon acceptance. Articles are published in English language. They have consecutive numbers and are published in one annual volume. . The journal is conceived for the rapid publication of short notes but also longer accounts that include but are not limited to descriptive studies and observations of interesting new aspects of the distribution, behavior and biology of amphibians and reptiles. Short notes describing new locality records, or confirmations of the occurrence of rare species, are welcome if they provide substantial new information to understand the range of a species. In its first year Herpetology Notes received 62 submissions. Among them 38 have been published, 6 have been rejected and 18 are currently under revision. Among the received manuscripts, 22 manuscripts deal with African, 17 with Asian, 16 with South American, 6 with European and 1 with North American herpetofauna. Submission of manuscripts is encouraged! Especially, we would be glad to receive more manuscripts on European and Mediterranean herpetofauna!

Volume 1 2008

Herpetology Notes considers three different kinds of contributions: Full articles: We encourage especially contributions dealing with methodological aspects, species inventories, and basic ecology and biology of species, including reports on breeding phenology, reproduction, habitat or population biology and results from local or regional herpetofauna mapping or monitoring projects. There is no restriction on page numbers. Full papers will be subjected to peer review by at least one member of the editorial team, or by an external reviewer. Format of full papers strictly follows the requirements of full papers submitted to main journal of SEH (Amphibia-Reptilia). Natural history notes and Distribution notes: Reports on unknown or rarely observed behaviours, diseases, parasites, predation, food and feeding qualify as natural history notes. Editors will decideif a certain observation is of sufficient interest to be published. Natural history observations, whenever possible, should be documented with high quality photographs. Distributional notes will be published if they report range extensions, new regional or country specific records, altitudinal information, or crucial new grid cell records. Distributional records must be accompanied, by geographical coordinates (GPS readings or extrapolated from maps; format of latitudinal/longitudinal degrees with digital extension.
