The Croatian textile and clothing industry recorded 28,871 employees in December 2006. This is 2.5% of the total number of textile employees in the Republic of Croatia and 11.57% of the total number of textile employees in manufacturing industry. The textile and clothing industry participates in total Croatian exports with 6.2% percent, having registered a foreign trade deficit of USD 335.622 million in 2006 (production principle). For the major part, exports are generated through contract processing, which accounts for 80 to 95% of total manufacturing capacity. "Full exports", i.e. the export of goods of Croatian origin, are associated with the manufacture of clothing for the British, Italian, Slovenian, Bosnian & Herzegovinian and Russian markets - mainly of men's suits, whereas the

Italiju, Njemacku i BiH. Takoer je vrlo znacajan puni izvoz muskih i zenskih carapa u Italiju, Njemacku i Nizozemsku. Tekstilno i odjevno gospodarstvo ima 3,45% udjela u ukupnom prihodu preraivacke industrije. Primarna industrija ostvaruje 35,47% ukupnog prihoda, a odjevna industrija, dorada i bojenje krzna imaju 64,53% udjela u ukupnom prihodu grane.

Slovenian, Czech and Bosnian & Herzegovinian markets take in most of women's clothes. Germany, Austria and Slovenia buy knitwear, whereas yarn and fabrics are exported mainly to Italy, Germany and Bosnia-Herzegovina. ,,Full exports" are also significantly associated with the manufacture of men's socks and ladies' stockings for Italian, german and Dutch markets. The textile and clothing industry holds a 3.45% share of the total manufacturing revenue of Croatia, with primary textile production accounting for 35.47% of that amount, and the clothing industry, fur dressing and dyeing for the remaining 64.53% in total revenue of this branch. In general, new technology equipment holds a 70-90% share of total investments in the textile and clothing industry. The clothing industry makes comparatively higher investments because it employs more people and investment per employee is much lower than in the primary industry.

OSNOVNI POKAZATELJI POSLOVANJA

BASIC OPERATIONAL INDICATORS

I. Zelina, Varteks Varazdin, Kamensko Zagreb, Rio Rijeka i TKT zlatna igla.

In the past several years, this industrial sector has faced difficulties in its activity, which is marked by seasonal fluctuations. Therefore, a special challenge is maintaining the level of manufacturing activity in interim periods. Orders by foreign customers (especially in contract processing) decrease both in quantity and prices. Many free trade agreements between the Republic of Croatia and other countries have not created new export opportunities for this industry. Moreover, it has experienced increased competition and easier inflow of cheaper foreign goods to the domestic market. Only companies which have made substantial investments and modernised their manufacturing technology earlier in transition (this especially refers to the purchase of highly specialised machines intended exclusively for a specific operation in the manufacture of a final product) have good prospects and need not fear extinction. The review of current market position of Croatian textile and apparel industry, the level of its technological equipment, personnel structure and organisation showed how essential it is to make a comprehensive development strategy of this industrial branch. The concept of long-term development of Croatian textile and apparel industry is mainly based on : identification of market opportunities and possibilities textile industry can further exploit key goals to achieve in the future, and organisational frameworks which will enable the realisation of development goals. The development strategy details the operating plan of Croatian textile and apparel industry with the following key development goals: major market repositioning according to competence and capabilities of Croatian textile companies transfer of technologies and innovations but also striving to employ our own expertise and knowledge industrial specialisation which will enable the textile industry to enter the market with high quality products and lower prices in its class enlargement of textile companies which will enable mastering of stronger negotiation skills adaptation of the workers to new market, technological and organisational conditions of business and development The above mentioned goals will be realised through eight development programs in the period from 2008 to 2015. The textile and clothing industry traditionally participates in the Zagreb Fair's Intertextile annual event. Also, Croatian textile and clothing manufacturers attend specialised fairs and exhibitions throughout Europe. Members of the Primary Textile Industries Group: Tekstil Lio Osijek, Pamucna industrija Duga Resa- Cotton Industry Duga Resa and i DUT Zagreb made a successful appearance at Heimtextil in Frankfurt in January 2007. Four companies participated at Techtextile in Frankfurt in June 2007: Cateks Cakovec ,M-profil Zabok, Tekstil Lio Osijek and Belina mont Krapinske Toplice. Textile companies also appear at the Belgrade Fashion Fair in spring and summer. In 2007 the company TJT Zalatna Igla, which traditionally participates with its collections Siscia and Brijuni at CPD Fair in Moscow, once again represented Croatia together with Zelinka Sv. I. Zelina,Varteks Varazdin, Kamensko Zagreb, and Rio Rijeka.
