Evens Charles is the founder and CEO/President of Frontier Development and Hospitality Group, based in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. He bought his first property in 1998 and since then has developed over 70 residential and commercial properties from Pennsylvania to Virginia. Charles currently owns and operates a 70-room Comfort Inn hotel in Martinsville, VA, and a 157-room Comfort Suites hotel in downtown Atlanta, along with exclusive franchise rights to a new hotel development in Bowie, MD, making him one of the youngest African-American hotel owners in the industry. A serial entrepreneur, Charles was initially exposed to the concept of ownership in 1995 through network marketing, having reached the second-highest position at American Communications Network within six months of joining the company at age 23. By age 26, he was beginning his real estate career while simultaneously pursuing a role in corporate sales with major secondary educational publisher Holt, Rinehart and Winston in Philadelphia, PA. Prior to solely focusing on Frontier Development, Charles was a corporate sales representative at Holt, where during his tenure he surpassed sales goals for eight consecutive years and was the highestproducing sales representative in the company for 2003 and 2004, exceeding his sales quota both years by over 400%, a company record. As a result, he sold textbooks to nearly every middle and high school student within the Philadelphia school district, while also playing a key role in training teachers and administrators on the use of the curriculum. Charles hails from Washington, D.C., having been raised by a single mother who immigrated from Haiti. Rising above the dangerous urban surroundings of his community, he attended Temple University, where within five years he earned a football scholarship, a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's degree in Education. His accomplishments have been recognized with the 2009 Emerging Hotel Owner of the Year Award given by the National Alliance of African American Hotel Owners, Operators and Developers; the 2010 Next Generation of Business Leaders Award given by Urban Philly Professional Network; 2010 Entrepreneur of the Year awarded by the National Alliance of Marketing Directors; the 2010 Outstanding Hotelier Award given by the Asian American Hotel Owners Association, and the 10 People Under 40 to Watch in 2010, awarded by Tribune Magazine.
