Hitachi Consulting Named Top 10 IT Outsourcing Adviser in `The Black Book of Outsourcing'

Trends Indicate Manufacturing Outsourcing Advisory Services in Greater Demand DALLAS Aug. 14, 2007 Hitachi Consulting, the global consulting company of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT), recently was named one of the Top 10 Information Technology Outsourcing Advisers based on customer surveys conducted by the Brown-Wilson Group. The results appear in the 2007 edition of "The Black Book of Outsourcing" which measures customer satisfaction in the global services industry. Hitachi Consulting was ranked in two categories No. 8 in both the Top Advisers in Information Technology Outsourcing, which ranks advisers with extensive IT client engagements, and Corporate Globalization Adviser Firms, which highlights firms focusing on corporate global expansions and assessment engagements that may include outsourcing or offshoring consultation. The rankings are the first time Hitachi Consulting has appeared in the "Black Book" which, according to publishers, is the only independent ranking of global outsourcing vendors by clients. This year's survey had more than 18,000 ballots cast by more than 2,000 vendors and 400 advisers. "We're honored to have received this first-ever ranking from Brown-Wilson, especially as it's based on client and marketplace feedback," said Jim Cole, vice president, Hitachi Consulting Outsourcing Advisory Services. "It's further corroboration that our depth of knowledge and experience in business process (BP) and IT consulting, especially in the manufacturing industry, well equips us to advise clients on the value of leveraging IT and BP outsourcing and other sourcing strategies. Our experience and solutions are key to our ability to advise clients looking to pursue outsourcing as an option." Outsourcing advisory services in the manufacturing industry are in greater demand, said Mr. Cole. According to a March 2007 Gartner, Inc. report by Kurt Potter and Gianluca Tramacere titled "Market Trends: Outsourcing Contracts, Worldwide, 2006," in 2003 and 2006, manufacturing companies ranked as the top vertical for outsourcing. An excerpt from the report states, "One can deduce from this that the conservative or late adopters of outsourcing have again renewed confidence in outsourcing as a business tool." "Our manufacturing clients are demanding more assistance with the outsourcing of their IT operations, in part because they see it as a viable business option in order to increase focus on

core activities," said Troy Lutes, managing vice president of the Industrial Manufacturing & Engineered Products practice of Hitachi Consulting. "As a leader in both the manufacturing and outsourcing advisory services fields, we are able to blend our two areas of expertise into a strong solution for our manufacturing clients." As an outsourcing adviser, Hitachi Consulting offers sourcing strategies, supplier assessment and selection, and vendor due diligence and contracting along with transition planning and vendor governance frameworks in support of application, business process, and IT outsourcing. Among the many companies that previously worked with Hitachi Consulting in these areas, international manufacturer Hubbell Incorporated and semiconductor equipment manufacturer MKS Instruments are just two examples. ###
