Darryl Brenzel is a professional musician living in Fredrick, MD. He is an retiree from the US Armed Forces where he served as a musician for 26 years. From 1979-83 Darryl was in the The Marine Corps and stationed with the band at Quantico, VA. From 1986-88 he was a member of the Army's Old Guard Fife & Drum Corps, serving as a fifer. From 1988-2008 Darryl was a member of the Army Jazz Ambassadors where he ws a saxophone soloist and eventually music director and chief arranger. In addition to his military performances Darryl has also performed with The Beach Boys, Chris Isaak, The Four Tops, The Nelson Riddle Orchestra, The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, Dan Akroyd, Jerry Butler and many others. He has also been on concert with The National Symphony, The Boston Pops, The Baltimore Symphony, The Pittsburgh Pops and The Cincinnati Pops, The New York Pops and The Columbus Symphony and The Long Beach Symphony. He has also appeared at numerous jazz festivals around the world including The Montreaux Jazz Festival, The Northsea Jazz Festival and The Newport Jazz Festival. He is currently professor of saxophone at Towson University and maintains a regular performing schedule with his own jazz trio and quartet as well as other area groups. Darryl has received Individual Artist Awards from the State of Maryland in both solo instrumental performance and music composition. His compositions and arrangeents have been played by many college, professional and militery bands. Darryl has studied music at Berklee College of Music in Boston and the Armed Forces School of Music in Norfolk, VA. Darryl is offering instruction in saxophone, flute and clarinet as well as jazz improvisation for any instrument. He also teaches contemporary style keyboard playing (how to play from chord sheets, function in a band, etc.) to students that already have a background in piano. Lessons are offered to students of all ages and levels. Lessons include fundamentals such as scales, technical exercises and sight reading as well as creativity and playing by ear. Half hour and hour long lessons are offered.
