HORIBA appoints Axel Wendorff as Vice President HORIBA Europe GmbH

Oberursel (Taunus), Germany, May 3, 2010. Axel Wendorff has taken on the newly created position of Vice President at HORIBA Europe responsible for the European Automotive Test Systems business. The 45-year-old mechanical engineer will report directly to Atsushi Horiba, Chairman, CEO and President of HORIBA. Wendorff will be based at the HORIBA Europe headquarters in Oberursel.

A passionate motorsports enthusiast, Wendorff has long-standing experience in the development of engines and engine test stands. From 2004 to 2009, he was Chief Engineer at Mercedes-Benz HighPerformance Engines in Brixworth, England. The engine that he developed enabled the Brawn GP Formula 1 team to win both the drivers' and constructors' championships in the 2009 season. In 2008, Wendorff together with McLaren-Mercedes succeeded in winning the Formula 1 drivers' championship. Even before these successes, he played a decisive role in the development of Formula 1 engines and testing equipment. From 1999 to

2003, he was manager of the Formula 1 Engine design department at Toyota, and from 1997 to 1999 was responsible for building the Formula 1 engine for Sauber Petronas Engineering. From 1994 to 1997, Wendorff was a designer for Formula 1 engine projects at Mercedes-Benz. He began his career in 1990 as a designer and deputy team leader in the passenger car diesel engine design department of Mercedes-Benz. Wendorff studied mechanical engineering (design) at the University for Applied Science in Cologne, Germany.
