Come to the Capitol


The State Capitol Complex is north of Interstate 94, just minutes from downtown St. Paul. It is accessible from the east and west on I-94, and from the north and south on Interstate 35E. * I-94 eastbound: Exit at Marion Street. Turn left. Go to University Avenue and turn right. * I-94 westbound: Exit at Marion Street. Turn right. Go to University Avenue and turn right. * I-35E northbound: Exit at Kellogg Boulevard. Turn left. Go to John Ireland Boulevard and turn right. * I-35E southbound: Exit at University Avenue. Turn right.

Daily parking permits are available for $5 in room G-10 of the Administration Building at 50 Sherburne Ave. Three free customer service parking slots are available in Lot Q. For more information, call 651-201-2300. Public metered parking can be found along John Ireland Boulevard, Cedar Street near the Centennial Building, Aurora Avenue (in front of the Capitol non-session) and in: Lot AA - across Rice Street from the State Office Building on Aurora Avenue; Lot F - directly behind the Transportation Building; Lot H - west of the Veterans Service Building; Lot J - has only public disabled parking, no general public parking Lot K - 12th Street east of the Veterans Service Building; Lot L - East of the Judicial Center; Centennial Parking Ramp - between Centennial and Freeman buildings (orange level only); and Lot Q - north of the Capitol at Cedar Street and Sherburne Avenue; Lot U - corner of 14th Street and N. Robert Street.

Capitol tours are offered through the Capitol Historic Site Program of the Minnesota Historical Society. There may be a cost. For tour information, call 651-296-2881. Year-round cafeterias are available in the Transportation, Centennial and Stassen buildings, as well as the Judicial Center. The Rathskeller in the State Capitol is open only when the Legislature is in session.
